Summary

She trusted Oliver with all her heart and if he betrayed her she might never be able to trust anyone in her life. She stopped the car at a distance from his house. The door was closed so Lacy went through the wall and opened the door for Madison. All the lights were off at the house. They saw light coming from a room they went a little near and peaked through the door. They saw Oliver removing the carpet. There was a secret path under it. As Oliver went in it; Lacy and Madison followed them. They walked for about half an hour. When they got out of that secret tunnel, they found themselves in a big mansion. They followed Oliver. They saw that he was talking to some man in a room. “Why are you late?” the man asked. He had a cold tone to his voice. “My car was not starting, and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong, so I left it in the garage and Madison dropped me off at home.” Oliver informed. “Okay then how are things with that girl?” the man asked. “Everything is going great. She isn’t suspecting a single thing. Today I proposed her, but she said she will give me the answer tomorrow.” Oliver explained. “What do you mean tomorrow? Does she even love you?” “Don’t worry. She is a naive girl. It’s not that hard to fool her” “But still be careful, if we want our plan to succeed” The man warned. “Yes dad” Oliver said.

Meetings

It was a horrifying, rainy dark night. A 14-year-old Madison was running towards the train station as fast as she could. She was in time when the train was about to depart. She got in all wet holding a bag, sat on the train; her wet brown hair coming to her face.

Madison used to live in Alfriston with her toxic parents. This was her 14th birthday. Her parents didn’t celebrate it as always. At night, when her parents went to sleep she took out the train ticket she bought after collecting money for years. She packed her clothes, water, and some food and ran away. After a while, it started to rain. She reached in time when the train was about to depart. She got in all wet and tired.

As she was looking for her seat, her head was filled with thoughts of what is she going to do, where will she go? Thinking about everything that had happened and what will happen, scared her and her eyes started to fill with tears.

She quickly wiped them as she found her seat. She was still half out of breath as she sat down and drank some water.

A surgeon from London was travelling in that train too. She went to meet her parents for a while and now was going back.

Lydia was sitting in front of Madison. When Lydia saw her all wet and her eyes wet from crying, Lydia asked her if everything was okay. At first, Madison didn’t tell her anything but Lydia knew from her voice that something was wrong and kept asking her the same question. Madison finally gave in told her that she had run away from home because of her parents and don’t know where to go.

Lydia had a golden heart and insisted “You should come to live with me. I will take great care of you. Besides, you said you don’t have anywhere else to go. I also live alone in an apartment, so it will be good to have someone to talk to”

Madison didn’t want to be a burden so she kept denying. But Lydia kept insisting. In the end, Madison agreed as she had nothing to lose anyway.

They both arrived at London in about one and a half hour. Lydia called an uber after half hour they and reached her apartment.

Going in, Lydia gave Madison a towel so she can take a shower. They ate food which they had bought on their way. They went to sleep right after.

The following morning after breakfast, they started to clean the since Lydia wasn’t home for a while so the house was a bit dusty.

While cleaning, Madison went in the living room to clean but when she opened the door she saw a girl sitting on the couch. She asked slowly “Who are you?”

The girl didn’t answer her so she went a little close and asked again. This time the girl got up and turned around with a confused expression.

Her skin was pale and she was wearing a white frock. She had curly blond hair. She asked her “Are you talking me?”

“Do you see anyone else in this room? Madam Lydia told me she lives here alone.”

“How can you see me?” girl asked with the same confused expression.

“With my eyes stupid. You are weird. Get out of here or else I am going to tell-”

Before Madison could complete, Lydia entered the room “Who are you talking to?”

Madison pointed at the girl and asked “Do you know this girl? she is pretty weird. I told her to leave but she is not listening.”

“What are you talking about? There is no one here except us”

Madison turned her face towards the girl, questionably. She was still there.

The girl told her “You may find it weird but I am a ghost and no one can see me. Don’t tell her about me right now. Please”

Then Madison turned to Lydia “I was just joking.”

Lydia smiled and said “I really thought you were talking to someone. You are good at acting.”

They both laughed and got busy in cleaning the rest of the apartment.

The boy left the room.

When she was finished cleaning, she started to search for her around the apartment. It didn’t take long for Madison to find her. She found her standing in the balcony.

She stood beside her watching the beautiful moon as it shone in the dark starry sky.

Madison introduced herself with a heartwarming smile “Hey. Let’s start with introductions. I’m Madison. I … um … ran away from home because of my parents and ended up here. What is your story?”

The girl confused as always, asked “Why are you talking to me?”

Madison replied “Well, you don’t seem harmful. Now tell me about you.”

After seeing her beautiful smile and kindness, she felt good. Her sad face turned into a happy smile.

“My name is Lacy. I died a year ago because of weakness. I was born weak. I always had to see doctors. I never really went to school. I died in the hospital where Dr. Lydia worked at. When I died I didn’t know where I should go. I tried to follow my parents but they sat in the car and drove off and I couldn’t keep up with them. I couldn’t go home.

Of Corse, I knew the address but I was new in London, I am originally from Spain. I was watching my parents drove off then I saw Dr. Lydia getting inside her car so I ran and sat in that taxi too. Since then I have been living here.” Lacy confessed.

“So do you want to meet your parents?” Madison asked

“Yes. Maybe someday I will meet them” Lacy replied.

“And I will make sure to help you find them”

“Can you do me a favor?”

“Sure. What is it?”

“Please don’t tell anyone about me. And about my parents, who knows if they went back to Spain. So you don’t have to trouble yourself.”

“why don’t you want anyone to know?”

“I am fine like this”

“But they are going to help you”

“Do you really believe that?”

Madison looked down. Her smile disappeared from her face. She had trust issues because of the atmosphere of her home. She only came along with Lydia because it was better than not knowing where to go in this big city, better than sleeping on the road.

“It’s worth a shot” Madison lifted her eyes and looked at Lacy. Her eyes had light, determined to start a new life “I’ll see Lydia for a while then we’ll decide whether to tell her or not”

“Fine…” Lacy sighed “That works for me”

Lydia got Madison into a school the very next day.

“Lydia enrolled me into a school” Madison told Lacy upon returning home. Lydia went straight to work after dropping off Madison.

“Good for you” Lacy said with a light smile on his face.

“You mentioned that you wanted to go to school too”

“Yeah”

“You can come with me”

“What’s the point, no one can see me” Lacy said, turning her eyes on the ground.

“I can see you. And you can also learn there” after a bit more convincing Lacy finally agreed.

As time passed, Madison’s relation with both Lacy and Lydia got better. Lacy became her best friend and Lydia became a mother figure.

At last, after a month later Madison told Lydia about Lacy’ existence “At least now I know who had been messing around in the house and making creepy noises at night”
