Lantern Heart
Thanks for being here. Seriously.
Thereโs a version of this story where the hurricane is just a backdrop. Thatโs not the version I wrote.
When I put Riley and Cole in that little metal building with the water rising and the power gone and nowhere to go, I wasnโt interested in the disaster. I was interested in what happens to people when all the usual exits disappear. When thereโs no phone to look at, no polite excuse to leave, no performance of okayness to maintain. Just two strangers and a storm and however many hours it takes for Helena to pass.
They talk. Really talk. And thatโs the whole book, honestly -- the particular intimacy that only comes from being trapped somewhere with someone, with nothing left to protect yourself with except the truth.
Close proximity done the way it should be. No contrivances. Just a hurricane and two people who needed to be exactly where they were.
If you want to explore more of my books and the world weโre building around these books, everything lives here in our Inkitt Subscription service and over at kiralorneromance.com. I try to approach the whole publishing thing differently...so check out the site, i think youโll find it very different than the norm.
