The Perfect Life That Wasn’t Perfect

The city of Mumbai glittered beneath the night sky, lights stretching endlessly like stars that had fallen to earth.

Inside the top floor of Mehra Towers, Mehra Global Industries CEO Arjun Mehra stood by the glass wall, his expression unreadable as always.

Behind him, the boardroom buzzed with nervous energy.

“Sir, the Singapore investors are waiting for confirmation,” one executive said.

Arjun didn’t turn.

“Delay it by twelve hours,” he replied calmly. “We don’t rush decisions.”

His voice was steady, powerful… unquestionable.

But his phone buzzed.

Meera Calling…

He stared at it for a second.

Then… declined.

At Home

Meera sat at the dining table, staring at the food she had carefully prepared.

The clock ticked loudly.

9:00 PM

10:00 PM

10:45 PM

Her fingers tightened around her phone.

She whispered to herself,

“He said he’d come early today…”

The door finally opened at 11:30 PM.

Arjun walked in, loosening his tie.

“You’re still awake?” he asked casually.

Meera looked at him, hurt flashing in her eyes.

“I waited.”

“You shouldn’t have,” he replied simply. “You know my schedule.”

Silence filled the room.

Meera forced a small smile.

“I made dinner…”

“I’ve already eaten,” he said, walking past her.

That one sentence broke something inside her.

Later That Night

Meera stood by the balcony, tears quietly slipping down her face.

Behind her, Arjun sat with his laptop, completely absorbed in work.

She turned.

“Arjun… can we talk?”

He didn’t look up.

“I’m busy, Meera. Tomorrow.”

Her voice cracked slightly.

“You always say that.”

Now he looked up.

“And I mean it every time,” he said, not harsh—but distant.

She laughed softly, painfully.

“Do you even realize… we’re married?”

Arjun frowned slightly.

“Of course I do.”

“Then why does it feel like I live with a stranger?”

That question hung in the air.

For a moment… Arjun had no answer.

But instead of speaking… he closed his laptop.

“We’ll talk later. You’re overthinking.”

And just like that—he walked away.

Meera stood there alone.

Again.

A Love That Was Silent

What Meera didn’t see—

Was that later that night, Arjun quietly walked into the kitchen.

He saw the untouched food.

He paused.

His hand brushed lightly over the plate she had prepared.

A faint regret crossed his face.

But he said nothing.

Because Arjun Mehra…

didn’t know how to express love.
