Summary

At Westbrook High, his arrival felt like the world paused. Hallways went quiet, attention shifted. Confident, calm, impossible to ignore—the new transfer student everyone noticed. But to her, he was something stranger. She first saw him in Chemistry and felt a pull she couldn’t explain—familiar, like a memory. She had seen him before… in dreams too real to ignore. In them, he knew her. She always woke with something lingering. In reality, he noticed her too. Cafeteria talks turned deeper. “You seem familiar,” she said. “We’ve never met,” he smiled. Weeks passed. Silence became connection. At the gala, she stepped into the light—changed, seen. Their eyes met, and everything disappeared. But he pulled away, afraid of a past he wouldn’t explain. Distance became tension, then a sudden kiss neither could ignore. Rumors spread. She stopped being invisible and learned to stand her ground. Yet the question remained: why did she dream of him before he existed in her life? Some connections don’t begin when people meet—they begin before reality catches up.

The Transfer

The moment he stepped into Westbrook High, the hallway seemed to pause. Conversations dipped, lockers slammed shut a beat too late, and even the teachers glanced up from their papers. He wasn’t just another transfer student — he carried himself with the kind of confidence that made people notice. Tall, athletic, with that easy grin that could melt through the toughest crowd. The kind of boy everyone instantly labeled a heartthrob.

But to her, he was something else entirely.

From her seat at the back of Chemistry, she watched him slide into the room, his presence filling the space like a storm cloud before rain. He was strange — not in the way people mocked her for being quiet, but in the way his face tugged at her memory. Amusing, magnetic, unsettling. He looked familiar, though she couldn’t place why.

Days turned into weeks, and the feeling gnawed at her. Déjà vu. She knew him, somehow. Then, one night, the memory crashed back — a dream, vivid and unshakable. A dream where he had already existed in her subconscious. A dream that left her blushing in the dark, a dream she never thought would bleed into reality.

And now, here he was. Sitting two rows ahead, turning back occasionally with a smile that made her pulse race.

As sparks began to fly between them, the girl everyone overlooked started to glow. She had always been the quiet one, the “weird” one, the girl with a broken family who kept her head down while whispers followed her through the halls. But when the annual school gala arrived, she stepped into the room transformed. Dressed stunningly, she made heads turn, and the truth unraveled: she wasn’t just the quiet girl in the corner. She was wealthy, influential, and far more powerful than anyone had imagined.

For him, though, it wasn’t her wealth or her influence that mattered. It was her heart. And yet, just as she began to believe in his attention, in the hope he gave her, he pulled away. Fear of love, fear of vulnerability — reasons she would only discover later.

But bonds forged in pain and recognition run deep. And as their worlds collided, the boy from her dream and the girl who had always hidden in plain sight found themselves falling — not just into love, but into the kind of connection that changes everything.²

I really like the build up of the story, Elma. I do wish there was more of how the characters are building their connection. What are they saying to each other? What were their first words? That character building of what he says to pull away. You’re doing great at telling us what their story is- now let them show us that story. I’m definitely invested in finding out!
