Chapter 5

📘 Chapter 5 — Breakdown

Silence stretched.

Thin.

Tight.

Ready to snap.

“…Depends,” you said calmly.

“On what you’re offering.”

The man tilted his head.

A faint smile.

“…Offering?”

A quiet chuckle escaped him.

“You misunderstand your position.”

Weapons shifted behind him.

Safety clicks echoed.

“You have something we want,” he said.

“You hand it over.”

“…And if I don’t?”

His smile vanished.

“…Then we take it.”

Aira moved first.

Steel flashed—

One man dropped instantly.

Gunfire erupted.

You hit the ground as bullets tore through the table.

Wood splintered.

Dust filled the air.

Aira cut through another—

Fast.

Clean.

But this time—

They were ready.

A shot forced her back.

Another man rushed you—

You reacted—

Grabbed a metal pipe—

Swung—

Impact.

He dropped.

“…Interesting.”

You froze.

The leader hadn’t moved.

Gun lowered.

Eyes sharp.

Aira circled.

Careful.

Then—

He vanished.

Too fast.

CLANG.

Aira barely blocked.

The force pushed her back.

He pressed forward—

Relentless.

Precise.

Strike after strike—

Too fast to follow—

She blocked—

But she was losing ground.

“Move!” she snapped.

You rushed in—

Swung—

He caught it.

Effortless.

Then—

A kick.

You slammed into the wall.

Air gone.

Vision shaking.

“…Too slow.”

Aira attacked again—

Faster—

He dodged—

Countered—

A deep cut opened across her side.

She staggered.

Your chest tightened.

No transfers.

No escape.

Only one option left.

Fight.

You pushed yourself up.

Pain sharp.

Real.

But your body responded.

Stronger.

Faster.

You moved again.

This time—

Different.

Aira attacked head-on—

You flanked—

He blocked her—

You slipped in—

Your strike landed.

A solid hit.

He stepped back.

For the first time.

“…Better.”

Aira didn’t stop.

Neither did you.

Together—

Again.

Faster.

Sharper.

This time—

You weren’t reacting.

You were forcing him.

Steel clashed.

Blows exchanged.

You took a hit.

She took one too.

But slowly—

Very slowly—

You adapted.

And then—

An opening.

Small.

Barely there.

Aira saw it.

“…Now!”

You moved.

Everything you had.

He turned—

Too late—

Your strike hit first—

His balance broke—

Aira followed—

Her blade cut deep—

Silence.

The leader froze.

Then—

Collapsed.

Your chest heaved.

Your hands shaking.

You won.

Barely.

Aira stood still.

Breathing hard.

Blood dripping from her blade.

“…That was too close,” she muttered.

You didn’t answer.

You couldn’t.

You stepped toward the body.

Loot.

Instinct.

You searched him.

Fast.

Weapons.

Ammo.

Then—

A pouch.

You opened it.

Inside—

Crystals.

Your eyes sharpened.

Twelve.

More than you expected.

More than you’ve ever had.

Your heart rate picked up.

Aira was behind you.

Watching.

You hesitated for a fraction of a second.

Then—

Your fingers moved.

Two crystals.

Gone.

You closed your hand.

Subtle.

Hidden.

“…Absorb.”

A faint pulse ran through your body.

Quick.

Silent.

Stronger.

Just a little.

You exhaled.

Then turned back.

You held up the pouch.

“Looks like we hit the jackpot.”

Aira stepped closer.

Eyes narrowing slightly.

“…How many?”

You tossed it lightly.

She caught it.

She opened it.

“…Ten.”

A pause.

Then she looked at you.

“…Not bad.”

You shrugged.

Calm.

Controlled.

“Better than dying.”

For a moment—

She held your gaze.

Longer than usual.

Like she was trying to read something.

Then she looked away.

“…We need to move.”

You nodded.

No argument.

But inside—

The system pulsed.

Stronger now.

And for the first time—

You weren’t just surviving.

You were growing.
