Chapter 1 Who could the person watching her be?

Akiesha Montejo POV

What the— I’m late?!

And I still have a patient… it’s only six-thirty in the morning. Seriously, why did this have to happen today? If my secretary hadn’t called me, I probably wouldn’t have woken up at all.

Because I was in such a rush, I didn’t even get to eat breakfast. I couldn’t even take a proper shower, so I just did a quick half-bath instead. I almost tripped over a rock sticking out of the road because I was walking so fast.

Ugh… why did I forget to set my alarm?

By the time I arrived at the hospital, it was already seven-thirty in the morning.

Yes, a hospital.

I’m just a psychiatrist who deals with amnesia, trauma, stress, and other psychological conditions.

So as soon as I arrived, I immediately apologized to my patient. Thankfully, they were kind. Some patients are even scarier than the doctors, honestly—but we still have to understand them because they came here asking for help.

I actually got scared once because of one of Doc Alvin’s patients. Good thing Doc Alvin is kind, even though his arm got injured. It wasn’t even because he was late—there were just too many patients, and he couldn’t accommodate everyone. In the end, they had to escort the patient out, and they transferred to another hospital.

Oh right… I haven’t introduced myself yet.

It’s because the author keeps focusing on gossip and my embarrassing moments first.

Hehe, just kidding, Author. You might suddenly kill me off in the story.

I’m Akiesha Montejo. I’m twenty-eight years old. Yeah, I’m already old—how about you, can you become a doctor? Haha, kidding.

People say I have an unusual kind of beauty. My eyes apparently sparkle like they hold their own world, and my aura feels… different.

(Author: Hey, Akiesha. What are you even talking about? Feeling pretty much?)

So what if I am? I just want to compliment myself for once!

(Author: Whatever.)

Alright, alright. Serious now.

I’m Akiesha Montejo. Twenty-eight years old and the only daughter of Mama Akira Montejo. I work at National University Hospital as a psychiatrist. One of my eyes is brown… while the other one is black. I honestly don’t know why they’re different. Think whatever you want.

Okay, let’s continue.

I’m just a simple woman—fair-skinned, average, but not mestiza. I have long wavy hair, and honestly… I think I look decent enough.

I know what you readers are thinking…

Why don’t I talk about my father?

Because… I don’t know him either. No matter how many times I asked my mom before, she never answered me. She would suddenly go silent or walk away. Eventually, I stopped asking.

Stop being so nosy… that’s my business. Just kidding.

“Doc Akie?” Secretary Kim called out.

I blinked.

“Are you okay, Doc? I’ve been calling you for a while now,” my secretary said.

I’m just introducing myself here and I’m already getting interrupted… I grumbled internally.

“Ah… sorry. I was just thinking about something. So, what’s my schedule today?” I asked.

“Ma’am Yumi said you’ll handle some of her patients for now. She had an emergency and was called by the head office,” she explained.

“Oh, I see. Alright,” I said. “Who’s assisting me?”

“Ma’am Yumi’s secretary will be there,” Secretary Kim replied.

“Okay. Thanks. You can go grab a snack after you finish your work.”

“Alright, Doc. Thank you!”

“Okay, I’ll head out first.”

As I walked toward the office, I overheard the nurses talking.

Nurse 1:

“Did you guys see how handsome Doc Alvin looked earlier wearing that hoodie?!”

Nurse 2:

“Right?! It’s my first time seeing him dressed like that!”

Nurse 3:

“He looks even more handsome!”

Nurse 2:

“I wish he’d dress like that every day so I’d actually feel motivated to work!”

“KYAAAAA!” they screamed.

Then they suddenly noticed me and went silent.

“Good morning, Doc Akie,” they greeted awkwardly.

“Morning,” I replied.

They scattered like frightened mushrooms the moment I passed by.

I could only smile.

I was heading to Ma’am Yumi’s office when suddenly—

“Ahh!”

I clutched my chest.

“A lizard…”

Someone laughed behind me.

When I turned around, it was Doc Alvin.

“Good morning, Doc Alvin. You startled me,” I said.

“Good morning too, Doc Akie. Sorry, I was just calling your name,” Doc Alvin replied while laughing.

I pouted.

He paused and smiled.

“You’re really cute, Akie,” he whispered softly.

“Hm? What did you say, Doc Alvin?” I asked.

“Ah… nothing. Where are you headed?”

“To Doc Yumi’s office. I’m handling her patients for now.”

“Ah, I see. Who are you having lunch with later?”

“No one. Doc Yumi isn’t here today. Why?”

“I was thinking of asking you out for lunch, if that’s okay with you.”

“That’s fine, Doc. No problem.”

“Alright. I’ll come get you later.”

“Okay.”

“Bye, Doc Akie.”

“Bye, Doc Alvin.”

I finally reached Ma’am Yumi’s office. There were many patients waiting outside, so I smiled and greeted them before going in and starting work.

I didn’t even notice the time passing—it was already noon.

Good thing I only had a few patients. I finished before Doc Alvin arrived.

As we walked out of the hospital together, I could feel people whispering around us.

I mean wouldn't look?

Doc Alvin Carvajal half Filipino, half Korean. Tall, smooth skin, blue eyes, and a great physique.

But... we're just friends.

After eating, we returned to the hospital.

"Thanks for the food, Doc Alvin"

" Oh, come on, Akie. You should be used to this by now," he replied with a smile.

I just smile back.

I said goodbye and returned to my office while he headed in the opposite direction. He's neurosurgeon, after all.

As for me... I was taking a half-day leave.

I was going to visit Mom.

When I arrived at her grave, just like always... there were fresh flowers again.

I don't know who keeps leaving them there. Even when l come early, I never catch the person.

Who could it be…?

I fell into thought.

Could it be my father…? A relative…? Or maybe a secret sibling?

I laughed softly.

Just kidding.

I knelt in front of my mother’s grave.

“How are you in heaven, Mom?”

“I’m okay here… even though I miss you so much.”

“Don’t worry. I’m taking care of myself. Be happy there… and please keep guiding me.”

“Love you, Ma…”

“I should go now, Ma… I still have a long way home.”

What Akiesha didn’t know… was that someone was watching her.

Quietly.

And they had been watching her for a very long time.

Who do you think it is? Are you curious too?
