Chapter 1
CUROT
BEFORE MY FRIEND WAS GONE, ASKED ME TO, RENDEZVOUS AT THE LIGHT OF DORADO, But, what exactly is the light of Dorado, i don’t know, I have never heard of it before, never been there, didn’t even know whether it exists or not, there’s nothing I know about it, that was the first time I have ever heard of it, and i can’t remember a single instance in my life when I remembered it mentioning it, I don’t, but my friend asked me to meet there, there was no specific time mentioned, there’s nothing, but one thing I have to be there, and there is a chain which it gave me, the chain was made of white gold, rather soft to hold, and it looked like a snake, in that chain, there’s something in it, a locket or an amulet, I am not sure of it what that is exactly, but it too was made of gold, it was round, and a labyrinth was made on it, on the top of it, there’s a small cylinder, if you twist it, the top opens up, it was like a compass, but there’s something off about it, there’s only one arrow, which didn’t even move, and there were no directions been mentioned on it, no, rather there’s something else, there were some symbols, and I couldn’t understand what they meant, as I have never seen anything like that in my life before, I never have.
What was it, how does it work, there’s nothing that I know about it, but somehow this thing is supposed to lead to the light of Dorado, but what was the light of Dorado, I don’t know, until I remembered some words which he has said there I was there in a state of being half conscious, I was attacked by someone or something, I am not sure about it, everything that I remembers, it’s blurry and muffled.
My friend said a lot of things, and I think one of those things were, as well as I can put them together is that, believe in your dream, my dream, well, I have two dreams, one is what I say is my ambition in my life, as what I wanted to be, and that was a bounty hunter, a dream which my family despises, rather they want me to be a soldier in the lord’s army, and I have no issues with that, as being a soldier, it pays good money, but being a bounty hunter, I can make good money, and I get to travel the world, something which I wanted to do, the world that we live in, it’s humongous in size and been filled with who knows what, I have never been put of the land, so, I don’t know much, in the land, my life was limited to places and people, so, this dream might be the one he has talking about, or, there’s another dream that I have.
The other dream, it’s more of a, nightmare, than a dream, as I have been having it since as long as I remembered having dreams while been asleep, as this one is a regular, I have it in now and then, and not everyone knows about it, no, just me, my family, and my friend, and no one else, so, there’s a great chance that he might be talking about that dream.
After that has happened there, I wasted a long time been over-thinking about this, and not reaching anywhere from it, until, I got so fed up, and made a move, for me, it looked like a compass, the one sea people uses it to travel through the seas, the sea was nowhere near our land, but I know a land where there is sea, and that’s where I went too.
I went to that city, I went to the port, talk to the fishermen, travellers, captains, the sellers, and even the makers, but there’s nothing I found about it, they have never seen anything like that before, and most of them, well, they have arguably denied that it is even a compass, that they use to travel through the seas, and been spending days in it, I felt like that everything has came to an end now, my search ends here, that’s what I thought there, until I meet a compass maker, who also denied it being a compass, but he also gave me a little hope there, he told me that there are different kind of compass, the ordinary people, the naval, and the pirates, they all use different kind of compass, and the one used my pirates and navy, well, they are not seen in the commonplaces, travelers don’t use them, so, he wasn’t sure about it, but he might have a theory that what I have is actually some sort of pirate compass, and that a pirate would help me with it, but as for the pirates, they are not someone whom you can find everywhere.
Now, my biggest concern was is where am I going to find a pirate, well, that compass maker helped me with that too, he did, he named me a land, where there might be pirate, and draw me a symbol on a piece of paper, it was a swastika made of bones, with an owl skull on top, and asked me to look for it.
Things aren’t as easy as they sound. The land he has named, well, it wasn’t a small place, rather an entire kingdom, bigger than the one I was in, and to tell, I entered in there at the worst time possible, it couldn’t get worse than that.
The kingdom was going through a tense period, there were a certainty for a civil war to break it anytime, so, been cautious, I entered in the land, and just started to look for the pirates, and been looking for them, well, it isn’t an easy thing to do there, apparently pirates are labeled as criminals, so, they don’t walk around freely, and you can’t find their ships been dock at the port among other ships, you can’t, and when been there in a land, pirates camouflage them as commoners, so, it’s a little hard to find them a little, the compass maker gave me all the information that I needed to find them, all I have to do is to look for that symbol, they intend to tattooed it on their bodies, and that’s all I have to look for, and the places where a pirate can be found, well, these are, a drunk yard, as pirates tend to drink, brothels, and other places.
But been looking for one pirate, well, it’s a little hard, when I was there, i had to spend days, been going from one place to another, been keeping my eyes open all the time, just to see that one symbol on any of them, and I finally saw one, after being struggling for days, I finally saw someone with that tattoo on one, and the place where I saw it, it wasn’t a bar or a brothel, no, rather a grocery shop, pirates don’t live on alcohol, they eat food too, I should have thought about it earlier, but guess I didn’t, and that too i saw it by chance, as I was just passing by there when I saw it, maybe just a glimpse of it, but I knew what I saw there.
Hiding behind a scarf, it was what I knew it was, and that too on a woman’s neck, certainly not something which I was expecting there, I don’t know nothing much about the outside world, everything that i know about the outside world is through books or what people have told me, I read about pirates, all of them were male, I have never heard about a woman being a pirate, because pirates believe that they are weak, and it’s a bad omen being present on the ship, but I don’t know how much of it is truth, or not, I read it in a book, and that book was written a long time ago, maybe the times have been changed, maybe, I can’t say anything for certain, but as soon as I saw that, I started to follow her, and it turns out that she wasn’t alone, there’s a man along with her, which I failed to noticed earlier, and they spend a lot of time in there, been buying food and stuff, and in the amount that they have bought there, well, it certainly was for more than two people, I followed them, till they have reached their home, and for them being a pirate, that was a fancy house they were living in.
That house was grand, a little farther from the city, near the sea, that house, it certainly did not belong to them, no, and that is something I can say it for sure, maybe they have killed the owner and taken over it, maybe, maybe not, but I certainly saw them been getting in there, I did, and now I have to get in there too, which is something I am a little scared to do there.
One, I have never broken into a strangers house before, then, a house occupied by pirates, but all I am need them from is their help, and nothing more than that, just their help, the front door was locked, and there sure is security out there, so, I thought to enter through the back door, around that house, there were a number of trees have been planted there, I find my way, the door was right there, but it seems to be locked from inside, and how can you open a door that is locked from inside, when you are outside, I do not have any knowledge about that, I might be able to break it, I thought of that, but then I saw a little window, it was far from the front, where the guards at, and it will he easier to break a window, then I door, I carry a sword with me, which I took from someone’s house when I left my land, just for the safety purpose and nothing more than that, I have never harmed anyone in my life, and I certainly do not intend too, no matter what, I used the handle of the sword to shatter the class, once shattered, it was rather easy to open the window, I made myself in, and been in there, I walked in silence, as quiet as I can be, and been moving from one place to another, been trying to find the ones I followed here.
But the place seems rather empty and filled with nothing but silence, I move from one place to another, hoping to find someone, I did not, I was going through from one room to another, until I opened one door which has a kind of startled me, and I released a little scream, for what I saw in there, it was someone’s bedroom, and the walls and bed, and the floor, all of it was covered with blood, and beyond that, there’s something else was there, something for which I wasn’t prepared to see.
I kind of control my scream which I get from the blood, but there’s something else was there too, a dim smell of something been rotting, and two barrels have been laying there, I got a bit curious there, So I opened one barrel, to see what was rotting in there, when I released another scream, this one was loud, and I started to puke, there’s a human in that barrel, dead, and it was filled with blood, and something else, not sure what, but I started to puke, I was out of the room, been trying to get away from it, but I failed to do so, my scream has been heard by others.
