Chapter 1: going to the unknown to bring her husband and the father of their child back.
In a secluded room of a forgotten warehouse, far from the ruins of a once-thriving city, Carole Monroe Oliver lay in bed, her back against the cool sheets as she gazed at the ceiling. Her thoughts were consumed by her husband, Tommy Oliver, a constant presence in her mind. She turned her head to the side, her eyes landing on the bassinet where their newborn son, Liam Oliver, peacefully slept. As a dedicated member of the resistance, Carole felt a surge of memories wash over her, recalling the last precious moment she shared with Tommy, a bittersweet reminder of love and sacrifice.
(FLASHBACK).
THE CITY WAS IN CHAOS; PEOPLE WERE HURRYING TO CATCH GREYHOUND BUSES TO SAFETY. TOMMY AND CAROLE STOOD CLOSE TOGETHER BY THE LAST GREYHOUND BUS, HOLDING HANDS AND TREASURING THEIR FINAL MOMENT AS A COUPLE, FILLED WITH LOVE AND HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.
“You’ve got to go, Carole; get on the bus,” said Tommy.
“I want to stay here and fight with you,” Carole said.
“Carole, please, just get in the bus; I’ll stay here and fight." "You'll only be a burden to me, and you’re only going to be slowing me down. “Tommy said.
“Only promise me that you’ll be careful and you’ll come back to me and to our unborn son too." Carole asked.
“I swear I’ll always be back to you two,” Tommy replied.
Tommy and Carole shared a lingering kiss, their lips brushing softly as they placed their hands on Carole’s round, pregnant belly, feeling the life within. The Greyhound bus driver’s voice broke the spell, announcing it was time to leave. Reluctantly, they pulled away, their fingers intertwining until the last moment. Carole stepped toward the bus, casting one final, longing glance at her husband. Their eyes locked, a silent promise passing between them. The bus door closed with a soft thud, sealing their moment in time.
As Carole walked down the aisle, cradling her belly, she felt a mix of hope and heartache. She noticed other passengers chatting, but her heart was elsewhere. Finding her seat, she gazed out the window, her heart racing as she spotted Tommy standing there, a beacon of love amidst the chaos. She waved goodbye, her heart swelling with emotion, and he responded with a wave, his eyes filled with determination and love as the bus began to pull away.
Carole watched as Tommy grew smaller in the distance, the world around them fading, leaving only their connection. She looked down at her pregnant stomach, whispering softly, “Don’t worry, Liam, Daddy will come back to us; he promised he would.” The warmth of their love enveloped her, a promise of reunion that would carry them through the uncertainty ahead.
Suddenly, a deafening explosion echoed in the distance, causing the bus to lurch forward as it sped away from the city. Gasps of shock rippled through the passengers, their faces pale with disbelief. Carole clutched her pregnant belly tightly, tears streaming down her cheeks as the weight of uncertainty settled in her heart.
(End of flashback).
Now, Carole found herself in the dimly lit corners of an abandoned warehouse, cradling her newborn son, Liam, who had entered the world amidst chaos shortly after the explosion. Every moment she wasn’t engaged in the fight for survival, she devoted herself to caring for him—bottle-feeding him with tender love and changing his diapers with gentle hands. Yet, her heart remained heavy with thoughts of her husband, Tommy, the father of their precious son, Liam. Memories of him flooded her mind, a constant reminder of their love and the sacrifices made for their family.
Until she resolved to embark on a daring mission to rescue her husband, Tommy, and bring him back to her and their son, Liam, she envisioned a future where they would once again be a family, united and whole. The thought of leaving Liam behind weighed heavily on her heart; she knew that his cries could betray her intentions and put them all at risk. Yet, she convinced herself that he would be safe, nestled in the warmth of their home, shielded from the dangers that lurked outside.
With determination coursing through her veins, she rose from the bed, the cool air brushing against her skin. She carefully arranged pillows beneath the bedcovers, crafting a semblance of her presence, a ruse to buy her some time. As she packed her clothes, each item folded with care, she felt a mix of anxiety and resolve.
She approached the bassinet where baby Liam lay, his tiny form swaddled in soft blankets, blissfully unaware of the turmoil surrounding them. Leaning down, she gently stroked the back of his head, her fingers gliding through his fine hair. In that moment, she felt an overwhelming surge of love and protectiveness, a reminder of why she had to take this risk.
Steeling herself, she walked out of her bedroom, her heart pounding as she navigated the dimly lit hallway. Each step felt heavy with the weight of her decision, but she pressed on, driven by the hope of reuniting her family. Entering the garage, she took a deep breath, the scent of oil and metal filling her lungs, grounding her in the present.
She opened the trunk of her Jeep Grand Cherokee, the familiar sound of the latch echoing in the silence. One by one, she placed her suitcases inside, each one representing a piece of her life that she was willing to leave behind for the sake of love. With her heart racing, she climbed into the driver’s seat, the leather cool against her skin.
As she turned the key in the ignition, the engine roared to life, a powerful reminder of her determination. She glanced back at the house, a bittersweet pang in her chest as she thought of Liam sleeping peacefully. With one last look, she shifted into gear and drove off, the road ahead filled with uncertainty but also the promise of hope. She was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, fueled by love for her husband and the dream of their family being reunited once more.
In a shadowy castle perched atop a mountain, overlooking a sprawling landscape, Lord Drakkon sat on his imposing throne, engaged in a tense meeting with his loyal followers. The air was thick with anticipation as they discussed their next moves in a world fraught with danger. Once the meeting concluded, Drakkon rose, his dark cloak trailing behind him as he strode down a long, dimly lit hallway, the flickering torches casting eerie shadows on the stone walls.
He entered his bedroom, closing the heavy door with a resounding thud that echoed in the silence. Alone, he felt a wave of anxiety wash over him, a sensation he could not shake. In that moment of vulnerability, he transformed into Tommy Oliver, Carole’s devoted husband and Liam’s loving father. Taking slow, deliberate breaths, he fought to calm the tremors that coursed through his body, grounding himself in the present.
As he approached a sturdy desk, he opened a drawer, revealing a treasure hidden within. His fingers brushed against a faded photograph, and he carefully lifted it out. The image captured a moment frozen in time: Tommy and Carole at a Memorial Day picnic, their faces illuminated by joy. Tommy’s arms were wrapped lovingly around Carole, his chin resting on her shoulder as they both smiled radiantly. Carole wore a beautiful blue sundress adorned with delicate white dogwood flowers, while Tommy sported a charming outfit that complemented hers perfectly. The scene was filled with laughter and warmth, a stark contrast to the darkness that now surrounded him.
Gazing at the photograph, Tommy felt a surge of longing. He had been dreaming of Carole, envisioning her running toward him after a long battle, her arms enveloping him in a comforting embrace, and the peaceful sight of her sleeping in his arms. The dream shifted, transporting him to a hospital where he saw Carole cradling their newborn son, Liam, wrapped snugly in a soft blanket. He yearned to walk toward them, to hold them both, but an invisible force always seemed to pull him away, leaving him in a state of despair.
With a heavy heart, Tommy whispered to himself, “Oh, Carole, I wish you and our unborn son could be here with me; we would be a family again, just the three of us.” He pressed his lips to the photograph, feeling the warmth of their shared memories. After a moment of reflection, he gently placed the picture back in the drawer, a bittersweet reminder of what he had lost.
Suddenly, another tremor gripped him, and he felt the transformation back into Lord Drakkon. The weight of his dual existence bore down on him as he closed the desk drawer, the finality of the action echoing in the stillness. With a heavy heart, he stepped out of his bedroom, the shadows of his castle enveloping him once more, as he prepared to face the challenges that lay ahead, driven by the hope of reuniting with his beloved family.
