Chapter 1
Nadia’s POV
It was around 10 a.m. when Mum yelled at the top of her lungs for me to wake up and get ready for my first day of college.
With a groan, I dragged myself out of bed, brushed my teeth, took a hot shower, and got dressed in a simple but smart outfit: a fitted white top, black straight-leg jeans, and my white Nike trainers. After applying a little makeup and tying my hair into a neat ponytail, I headed downstairs for breakfast.
My twenty-year-old brother, Kylie, was already seated at the dining table while Dad sipped his morning coffee, scrolling through his phone. Since it was my first day at college, the whole family was coming along.
Mum placed a plate in front of me, smiling warmly.
“Sit down, honey. I’m almost done,” she said as she flipped another blueberry pancake. “We don’t want you to be late for registration on your first day, right?”
She had made my favourite breakfast: blueberry pancakes with fried eggs and bacon.
I took my seat between Kylie and Dad and immediately started eating like it was my last proper meal. Honestly, with college starting, it probably would be until December.
While we ate, Dad gave me one of those emotional fatherly looks that usually meant a serious speech was coming. He cleared his throat before speaking.
“My angel,” he began, “look at how much you’ve grown. I’m so proud of you. And what would make me even prouder is seeing you earn that law degree. I believe in you — we all do. That’s why I’m sending you to one of the best universities in Abuja.”
The university he was talking about was Kingswell University.
Apparently, the school had two campuses: one in Abuja, where I lived, and another in a different state. The Abuja campus mainly focused on Medical Sciences courses like Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, and Radiography. It also offered courses in Computer and Environmental Sciences — and thankfully, my favourite course, Law.
What was even crazier was that the university had only been built in 2023, and now, in 2026, it was already considered one of the best schools around.
After breakfast, Kylie loaded the last of my luggage into the car, and not long after, we began our drive to the university.
My new life was officially about to begin.
