ROUND TWO BEGINS
Part II — The Game Changes
The mastermind was transferred.
The traps were uncovered.
The investigation should have ended there.
But some games don’t end when the players survive.
They evolve.
The investigation office was quieter than usual, but not relaxed. The atmosphere had changed ever since the Kriti case. New security cameras had been installed across the office. Every system was password protected twice. Important files were locked away carefully, and nobody ignored even the smallest detail anymore. They had learned their lesson.
Eyluy stood near the investigation board, staring at the remaining files connected to Kriti. His eyes scanned every note carefully. “She planned too much for this to end so easily,” he said quietly. Cholie leaned back in her chair, typing rapidly on her tab. “Agreed. A mastermind like her never leaves without backup plans.”
Meera crossed her arms. “Then the question is… what did she leave behind?” Emin placed another file onto the table. “Whatever it is, this time we’ll find it before it finds us.” Silence filled the room for a moment. Not fear. Focus. This time, they weren’t blindly chasing clues anymore. Now they understood the game.
Suddenly—
The monitor near Meera flickered. Everyone immediately turned toward it. The screen glitched once. Twice. Then completely turned black. Cholie stood up instantly. “That’s impossible. I checked the systems myself this morning.” A sharp static sound echoed through the office.
Then the printer beside Emin suddenly started printing papers on its own. The team froze. One page. Two pages. Three. Emin quickly grabbed the papers before more could print. His expression darkened. “What is it?” Meera asked. Slowly, he placed the pages onto the desk.
The papers were blank—
except for one line printed in the center.
Good. You finally learned how to play.
The room fell silent. Eyluy’s jaw tightened. Cholie immediately rushed toward her tab, tracing the signal source. “Someone accessed the office systems remotely.” “Can you trace it?” Emin asked sharply. Her fingers moved rapidly across the screen. Then she suddenly stopped. “No way…”
“What?” Meera stepped closer. Cholie looked up slowly. “The signal didn’t come from outside.” A heavy silence filled the office. Eyluy’s expression hardened. “It came from inside the building.” Before anyone could react—
the lights flickered.
Once. Twice. Then the office doors locked automatically. Meera stepped back. “Tell me that wasn’t part of the system.” “It wasn’t,” Cholie replied immediately. A low notification sound echoed from the monitor. A new message appeared slowly across the screen.
Round Two Begins Now.
Nobody spoke. Nobody moved. But this time, fear wasn’t the thing filling the room. Determination was. Eyluy slowly picked up the printed paper from the desk. A faint smirk appeared on his face. “Looks like the game really isn’t over.” Emin loaded his gun calmly. “Good.” Meera looked toward the dark monitor. “This time we know what we’re dealing with.”
Cholie closed her tab and stood up beside the others. “No,” she said quietly. “This time…” Her eyes locked onto the glowing message on the screen. “We’re ready for it.”
Far away, inside a moving prison vehicle heading toward another station, Kriti sat silently near the window. The guards around her remained unaware as she slowly looked down at her cuffed hands. Then—
she smiled. The game had changed. And now both sides knew how to play.
