The Silent Secret Under the Stars
The night was still — a terrifying, heavy kind of calm.
She stood at the edge of the light, where the glow of the lanterns faded into the deep blue of the evening.
Soft music drifted through the garden while laughter echoed beneath strings of golden lights. People moved around her in blurred colors and quiet joy, but none of it truly reached her.
Why am I even standing here? she wondered.
Honestly... even I don’t know.
She looked up at the stars.
Oh.
I didn’t introduce myself, did I?
I’m Clara.
She remained beneath the shadows of the trees, watching from a distance. She had always been good at standing where nobody noticed her.
It’s easy for people not to notice me.
For a moment, she thought she could stay hidden there forever.
Then he turned.
His eyes searched the crowd absentmindedly until they landed on her, and his entire face brightened.
“There you are!” he called, walking toward her. “I thought the shadows had finally swallowed you whole.”
Clara smiled despite herself.
And that’s Julian.
She thinks
There it was again — that familiar pull inside her chest.
The instinct to run..And the stronger urge to stay.
So she stepped forward, crossing from the cool darkness into the warmth of the lantern light.
“You wish,” she replied lightly. “I was enjoying the silence before you ruined it.”
Julian laughed softly.
That sharp sweetness again.
The sound settled painfully beneath her ribs, beautiful enough to break her every single time.
She hated how easily he could do that to her without even knowing.
He stopped in front of her, close enough that she could see the excitement glowing in his eyes.
“I’ve been looking for you,” he admitted. “I needed to tell you something..
