The Case of the Midnight
Detective Silas Merrick arrived at the edge of Blackthorn Forest just after dawn. A hiker had found a body - a young man, no ID, no phone, nothing but a torn scrap of paper in his hand.
On the Paper it read: "Find me before I find you."
The ground was soft with last night's rain. Perfect for footprints. Silas couched near some Rocks, brushing aside leaves.
One set of prints led away from the body leading deeper into the forest, barefoot. Deep heel marks and a slight inward turn of the left foot.
Silas froze, his eyes wide. He knew that gait as he'd walked with it his entire life.
