Chapter one

“Sensa, sweetheart. Where do the directions say the turn is?” David asks from the driver’s seat, “Umm...left in about a quarter mile,” says Sensa. “Where does Kelly want us to park, honey?” Sensa asks, “I don’t know, here check the mass text.” David hands her his phone. I’m sitting in the back seat staring out the window at the trees as they pass by; I’m barely paying any mind to the conversation in the front, too wrapped up in my own head to care, I guess. Things have been getting weird between me and Allen since I turned eighteen last week; any time I’m around him, he’s always so close to me, and any time I talk to a guy, he finds some reason to drag me away, if I didn’t know any better I would think he likes me, but I know he doesn’t, not that way. but I’m in love with him. have been since I was sixteen. Guess that’s why I’m reading into things the way I am. My brother David and I, and his wife/mate, are all headed up to Indian Head Pack Forest to do a Milsim with a large group of airsofters. There are 150 people up there getting ready. Honestly, I’m excited to finally be out in the open; it means I get to test my new kit; it’s going to be so much fun! Shooting people with my sniper rifle from where they can’t see me is the best feeling ever.
About 45 minutes later we’re pulling into a clearing with a bunch of other cars parked; Kelly is there waving cars to their places. Kelly is a human mated to a were, with gray hair and brown eyes; he’s about 5′11. “Hey guys! You can park right over there.” Kelly detects, “Thanks, Kelly. How far up the trail is the campsite?” David asks, “About a third of a mile up the right trail?” Kelly guesses. “Ok Kelly, see you up there,” David says. Once David parks the truck, I get out and stretch my legs, then I walk around and open the tailgate. Grabbing my backpack, I throw it over one shoulder and start to grab my gun bag. I see a hand in my periphery; it scares me so bad I damn near jump out of my skin. “Let me get that, princess.” Allen murmurs, “I look like a deer in headlights,” but recovers quickly enough. I legit can’t tell you the reason he started calling me that; it started when I was six and just, kind of, never stopped. “Oh! Umm, ok, thanks, Allen, but don’t you have your own bags to get?” Why does he have to be so handsome? he’s tall, 6′4 with light brown hair that is neither to short or too long (about two inches long) a very attractive face, with high cheekbones, full lips, and light freckles you can only see if you are look really close, and best of all, the most expressive blue eyes, he’s just breathtaking “Nope, all mine are already up at the camp, princess. “Just came back down,” he says while swinging my bag over his shoulder. “Oh, ok,” I mumble, hoping he doesn’t see how red my cheeks are. “Kelly asked me to take a look at one of the other guys’ trucks; it wasn’t starting or something. “He shrugs; Allen’s uncle owned a mechanic shop for years; he, my older brothers, and their friends would hang out there and help fix the cars. “Oh,” I hope he doesn’t hear the disappointment in my voice. Stupid heart, of course he wouldn’t come back down here for you. “Hey Allen, what’s up, man?” Then there’s David, the one who is always oblivious to everything around him... how he even got mated, I’ll never know. “Good to see you, brother. Did you have a good honeymoon?” Allen asks while David grabs his and Sensa’s bags. “Yes, it was a lot of fun, but it’s good to be back.” David says then Sensa comes around the side of the truck and sees my bag on Allen’s shoulder, then looks at me with a weird look. I just shrug and look away. “Hey sweetheart, can you grab the tent from the floorboard?” David asks, “Yeah, of course.” Sensa says, “Should we head up to the camp, princess?” Allen asks me, “What? a, Okay, sure, yep, sure, l-lets go, up, to it, yes.” That was not my proudest moment. ’Real smooth, Jane, real smooth. “Cacy, my wolf, cackles in my mind, ‘Not helping!’ Allen laughs, ’Come on, let’s go” Even his laugh makes my heart do a little flip. As we start up the trail. There’s no one else around; David and Sensa said they’d be up in a little. They’re waiting for friends, but they told me that I should go and get a spot for my tent. The walk-up is beautiful and quiet... but I can’t keep it that way. I feel like I always need to talk to him. I have to ask him a question but really shouldn’t. Nope, I’m not going to say anything—“So what was wrong with the guy’s truck?” I ask him, and Cacy says, ‘You just couldn’t keep it to yourself, could you?’ Flipping wolf. “Ah, just a bad battery; he’ll need a jumpstart when he leaves and a new battery when he gets back in town; nothing too serious,” he shrugs. “Oh, why did he need you to look at it? “It’s not like it’s that hard to figure out,” I say without really thinking. “You do that a lot,” Cacy says, and I give her my best mental ‘fuck you.’ I can, he laughs light and full of amusement “Cocky aren’t we?” he chuckles. “It might be easy for people like us to figure out, but engines aren’t really his area of expertise, he’s more of the, take it to the dealership, then the, fix it himself, type” he glances at me and I scoff “I’m not cocky! I just forget sometimes that it’s not common knowledge” I shrug, the motion throwing me off balance, making me trip on a rock, before I can hit the ground, I feel his arm wrap around my midsection as he pulls me to his rock hard chest, my backpack hitting the ground with a thud “watch your step. you wouldn’t want to break something before we even start the event, would you? princess” he murmurs, every word rumbles through my back and straight to my core. wet doesn’t begin to explain what i am “Nope! Th-that would not be good!” i say in a breathless squeak, Making great strides to that dork of the year award aren’t we? ‘no. not we. just you’ cacy says ‘always there to make me feel more embarrassed than I already feel aren’t you?’ I menially role my eyes at her and she laughs “Th-thanks for the catch” I stutter out while trying to get my feet under me, and that’s when I realize that he hasn’t let go yet. In fact his grip has gotten tighter and his breathing is erratic “A-Allen, y-you can let me go now” stop that! Stop stuttering like a middle schooler! For peat’s sake your a grown woman! “Sorry princess, are you all right?” He mutters as he let’s me go. “Yeah, I’m all right, thanks to you” I sigh embarrassed as I bend down to retrieve my backpack “How far till we get to the camp?” I inquire, dusting off my backpack “Not far, it’s a few minutes up the trail here” he glances down at me I nod my head and continue walking next to him, I can still feel his heat on my back and his arm around me. the thought is not helping the ache between my legs.
Just. fucking. kill me now.
