Chapter 1

After completing my chores, I headed out of the mall. Just a few lanes away, rain started pouring heavily. I sighed. We can predict almost everything, but never Delhi’s weather.Looking around for shelter, I spotted a corporate tower nearby and quickly ran inside. For a moment, I got lost watching the rain through the glass walls, but suddenly something triggered me.I felt someone’s gaze on me.A strange fear crept into my mind, as if someone was staring too intensely. Nervously, I pretended to call my dad and hurried out of the building until I finally felt safe enough to book an Uber.By the time I reached home, the rain had already calmed down.I paid the driver and stepped into my apartment.“Neha!”My mother’s voice echoed through the house. She glared at me for ignoring her calls.I gave her my best puppy eyes and immediately ran upstairs before she could scold me further. After dinner, I slipped into deep sleep.— — —Nikhil’s POVI was busy working in my office when my phone rang. Without checking the caller ID, I answered it.“Nikhil, I told you to come home early today!” my mother complained from the other side.“Fuck.”I had completely forgotten about the family function.“Sorry, Mumma. I’ll be home in fifteen minutes,” I said quickly before hanging up.Keeping my work aside, I headed toward the elevator. Since most of the staff and drivers were busy preparing for the function at home, I had to drive myself. As soon as I stepped outside the building, it started raining.Great. I hated rain.I was already irritated when I noticed a small figure rushing toward the entrance. And then I saw her.Black orb-like eyes. For a second, time completely stopped.I stared at her longer than I should have. There was something strangely innocent about her, something that made it impossible to look away.Only when my phone rang again did I realize she was already gone.I rubbed my forehead in frustration and walked toward the parking lot.How could Nikhil Suryawanshi, CEO of Suryawanshi Group, stand there staring at a random girl like an idiot?Pushing the thought aside, I drove home and attended the family event, though the entire evening passed in a blur.— — —Neha’s POVMy alarm screamed at exactly 8:30 in the morning.I lazily got out of bed, made it quickly, and walked into the bathroom to freshen up.Soon, I changed into formal clothes, tied my hair into a neat ponytail, and applied a little blush, lip balm, and eyeliner.Today was important.I had an interview at Suryawanshi Group. After graduating last month, I had been desperately searching for a job, and last week I finally received an interview letter from the company.I was nervous and excited at the same time.Being the daughter of a businessman, I knew everyone expected me to join Dad’s business someday, but I wanted to create my own identity first. My interview was scheduled for ten o’clock. After greeting Mom, Dad, Dada, and Dadi downstairs, I quickly had breakfast. My younger brother was away at summer camp, and honestly, the house felt too quiet without him.Dad dropped me at the address mentioned in the letter. The moment I looked up at the massive building, my eyes widened. It was the same place where I had taken shelter from the rain yesterday.Because of the storm and dark clouds, I hadn’t noticed the name of the building then.Taking Dad’s blessings, I walked inside and approached the reception desk. After checking my letter, the receptionist directed me to the fortieth floor. The interior of the building was breathtaking. When I finally reached the interview floor, I noticed a long line of freshers already waiting for their turns.— — —Nikhil’s POVAfter finishing my morning routine, I checked my schedule for the day.Interviews.I sighed in annoyance and texted my assistant that I would be working from home. But before I could relax, my phone rang.Abhishek.My best friend and one of Delhi’s most well-known chefs.“I’m waiting in your meeting room,” he said before hanging up immediately.I stared at my phone in disbelief.Agar ye gadha mujhe office na bulata, toh main aaj bhi interviews skip kar deta.I hated interview days.Girls constantly stared at me, and later someone or the other would request me to hire them based on looks alone. To avoid all the drama, I usually stayed away from the office during recruitment.Still annoyed, I drove to the office. After parking in my private spot, I pressed the button for the fortieth floor. The meeting room was directly opposite the interview area.As soon as the elevator doors opened, I noticed several candidates waiting outside. And then my heartbeat paused.Her.The girl from yesterday. Those same black eyes. She sat quietly on one of the waiting chairs, looking innocent and completely unaware of the effect she had on me.For a moment, I simply stood there staring. But my thoughts were interrupted by a loud voice.“Nikhil!”Abhishek.Everyone around immediately looked at me, but she didn’t even flinch.Interesting.Composing myself, I walked past the candidates and toward the meeting room.“What’s so urgent?” I asked Abhishek. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.“I forgot.”I closed my eyes in irritation.Ignoring him completely, I texted my assistant.I would be continuing the interviews today.
