Chapter 1: Rain of blood
Chapter 1: Rain of Blood…
It was a peaceful day, until a fierce storm raged around everything… Houses, trees, EVERYTHING succumbed to the powerful tempest. No one dared to leave their homes; fear gripped them at the mere thought of death that venturing out could bring… As the hours passed, the rain didn't let up; it intensified…
For my part, the rain didn't bother me. I was lying on my couch watching a movie, still in my pajamas with popcorn beside me. I was having a real movie and relaxation session, but the thunder and lightning kept interrupting the signal on all the TVs, and I couldn't enjoy it in peace. So, with no other option, I had to watch it on my phone, but unfortunately, the Wi-Fi wasn't working either.
I was going crazy. A rainy day, when I finally had a day off from work, and I couldn't even enjoy it… Ahh… Oh well, what can you do? I'll go to sleep; it's getting late…
When I lay down in bed, I fell asleep in just a few minutes. But that little nap was soon over because the sounds of thunder and the flashes of lightning kept everyone awake. I woke up many times because of the noise, and other times because of the light.
When I finally managed to fall completely asleep, I opened my eyes for a moment and began to see drops of water turning into blood as they fell and hit the ground. I jumped out of bed, terrified, and went to the corner of the room with my back against the wall. The drops kept falling and were gradually turning that blood-red color. The air began to feel heavy, as if it were slowly pulling me to the ground. The dampness in the room turned into a terrible smell of fresh blood, and when I looked out the window...
EVERYTHING WAS COVERED IN BLOOD AND RED RAIN.
My mind raced: Is this real? Am I going crazy? I didn't know what was happening. Little by little, everything was covered in blood, viscous and smooth like jelly… Slowly, I tried to leave the room, no matter how difficult it was to move… I finally managed to get out of my room, but apparently, it wasn't the only place in the house covered in blood… Everything was covered in blood.
I tried to leave the house. I remember reaching the door to get out, but when I opened it… everything was normal. There was no blood, just normal rain, and my house was as usual…
Something inside me started to go crazy. My mind couldn't stop repeating a loop that kept me from sleeping for the rest of the night:
"I'm crazy, you're crazy, we're crazy, I'm crazy, you're crazy, we're crazy…”
But… am I really crazy?
The next day, when dawn broke, the rain was still pouring down. When I got out of bed, I went to the bathroom to splash some water on my face. When I looked in the mirror, I saw dark circles under my eyes from not sleeping all night. I was even scared of my own reflection.
When I splashed water on my face and looked at myself one last time in the mirror, I noticed a red mark on the right side of my neck. When I touched it with my fingers, they got stained with blood. I stared at my bloody fingers for a while, terrified but unable to do anything. As soon as I stopped looking in the mirror, I turned on the tap, washed my hands, and splashed water on my face again.
When I looked in the mirror again, the mark was no longer on my neck. I touched where the red blood mark had been, and this time it didn't get stained at all.
I stared at myself in the mirror while that loop played in my mind again:
"You're crazy, I'm crazy, we're crazy, you're crazy, I'm crazy, we're crazy..."
That damned phrase wouldn't leave me alone. I looked in the mirror again, my eyelid twitching on its own. Am I really going crazy? Or is it just exhaustion from lack of sleep? I no longer know what's real and what's a lie. My mind can't properly process everything it's experienced in such a short time…
When I went back to my room, the smell of fresh blood lingered, but there was nothing there. I stared at the floor, replaying the same scene over and over: that viscous blood on the floor, my hands stained with blood, the rain—nothing made sense.
"What's happening?" I asked myself. "Why is this rain affecting me so much? Rain of blood? That's nonsense. It's impossible."
But… but… but I saw it with my own eyes. The thick air, the blood… it all seemed so real. It couldn't have been just my imagination… right?
"I'm not crazy, no no no, I'm not crazy, hahaha, I'm fine…"
But while I was saying this, my subconscious attacked, whispering a phrase:
"Don't lie to yourself, you are crazy, you are, yes, you are…"
But at the same time, I fought back:
"No, you're not crazy, y-you're fine hehe, yes, everything is fine, you're not crazy…"
Amidst all these thoughts, I didn't realize that the rain had returned to the room. Everything was turning to blood again, and this time I could move even less. The air was so heavy I couldn't even move my foot an inch, but I didn't give up so easily…
I started to move with difficulty. I took a heavy, slow step until I reached the doorknob. When I touched it to open the door… blood filled my hand, freezing it in place. It began to spread up my arm as if it had a life of its own. I tried to wipe it off with my other hand… and just as I was about to pull it away… everything disappeared. There was nothing on my arm, no blood, no heavy air, nothing at all. Only that smell of fresh blood that lingered in my nose…
Night fell again, and I was sure I wouldn't sleep that night. I was getting more and more shaken. I covered myself with the blanket from head to toe so I wouldn't see anything, but that didn't lessen my fear… it only intensified it. But even knowing that, I still didn't leave the blanket.
The thunder was a thousand times louder than usual, giving me a headache and ringing in my ears… the sound of the wind… the sound of the wind felt like someone was breathing into my ear. And the rain... that was the worst part. It felt as if each of those drops were falling on me. I felt wet from those drops, but what I thought was water was actually the sweat dripping from my body.
Suddenly, lightning flashed, illuminating the entire room. I wanted to lower the window blind, but I didn't dare leave from under the sweaty blanket. In a moment of courage, just to breathe some fresh air, I threw off the blanket for a few minutes—minutes that were pure terror for my mind and body.
I stared for a while at the wall, the one where I'd first seen drops of blood trickle from. Every time I looked at it, the same scene flashed through my mind: blood oozing from there, that viscous blood... the blood running up my arm.
"Everything that was happening to me... it was all fake. Yes, yes, yes, it's all fake, haha, it's all fake. I'm sure of it, everything is... fake..."
At that moment, a clap of thunder roared, followed by a flash of lightning. Through the open doorway, the light revealed a figure watching me.
I quickly grabbed my flashlight from my nightstand and shone it where I saw the figure, but when I did... again, there was nothing there. All I could feel at that moment was exhaustion, a headache, and my heart pounding at 100 km/h.
"What was that?" I asked myself.
Those thoughts raced through my body and mind again:
"You can't go on, you can't, no no no… hahaha you can't do anything, it's driving you crazy, we're going crazy… you're crazy."
My subconscious was attacking again, as always. Little by little I felt more lost, more crazy… yes, crazier and crazier and crazier. I hadn't slept in over a day. I was exhausted, but this was just the beginning.
"I never thought I'd say it, but I'm going crazy, yes… completely crazy, yes yes yes, very, very crazy, hahaha…."
When dawn broke, I realized that the rain was still pouring and I hadn't slept for two days. I was feeling worse than before, and my mind was betraying me… I didn't know if it was real or if all this was a nightmare, but whatever it is, I want it to end once and for all… but unfortunately, this was just the beginning.
Hours after waking up, I decided to go down to the living room and from there to the bathroom. This time, my dark circles were much more noticeable, and my tiredness was obvious from afar. When I turned on the tap to wash my face, the water flowed normally, but suddenly blood started coming out of it—the same blood I've seen before…
My hands were covered in blood and I panicked, as always. I turned off the tap in fear, and when I turned it back on… the water flowed normally, and the blood on my hands was gone. I ran out of the bathroom and went back to my room without thinking twice.
I covered myself completely with the blanket again like a child afraid of the dark… The thunder and lightning bothered me; again, it felt like they were striking right next to me. Those noises tormented me. I felt more and more like someone was watching me, but when I uncovered myself to see if anyone was there… the whole room was empty. It was just me and no one else, but I felt like I was still being watched.
Sometimes lightning flashed, illuminating the whole room, and I saw a shadow peeking through the doorway. But then, when I blinked for a second… it was gone. It wasn't there…
But it didn't end there. Suddenly, the room was flooded with blood again, but because I was covered up, I didn't notice. The blood started to fall onto the blanket, and because it was so viscous, it trapped me, making it hard to breathe for lack of fresh air. I tried to get out from under the blanket with all my strength and I managed, but by the time I did… the blood was gone again.
"Is this real? Is this a nightmare? Blood rain?" I kept asking myself. "Really? That's nonsense, it's impossible that this is real… I think."
I looked around the room where there was no trace of blood left, only that bitter smell of fresh blood that was already tiring my nose… Everything inside me went silent, trying to find the answer to my question, but it was no use trying…
I was getting closer and closer to knowing that this wasn't a nightmare, and that I was really experiencing this for some reason: rain of blood, dark figures that disappear, bloody marks on my neck… everything was getting worse and worse, and I didn't know what else to do after trying to solve the problem…
