The Runaway Bride

Summary

On the morning of her meticulously planned wedding, Amelia Hart realizes she does not actually want the life she has been smiling her way into, so she flees in satin shoes, commandeers her maid of honor's emergency getaway hatchback, and lands in a cheerful coastal town where her great-aunt has left her a slightly crooked cottage. She intends to hide, regroup, and figure out how to be a person who makes her own choices for once. What she does not expect is her annoyingly attractive next-door neighbor, Noah Bennett, a laid-back handyman and amateur trivia king whose golden retriever keeps stealing her mail and whose porch seems to be a magnet for her daily embarrassments. As Amelia rebuilds her confidence one funny disaster at a time, she and Noah become reluctant allies, then best friends, then something far more complicated in this lighthearted, slow-burn romantic comedy full of neighborhood antics, flirty banter, and one runaway bride discovering that the wrong wedding might lead her straight to the right love.

Introduction

Amelia Hart is thirty, polished, organized, and outwardly composed, but beneath her perfect-lady exterior is a woman who has spent years choosing what looks right instead of what feels right. Running from her wedding is the first impulsive thing she has ever done, and she is both horrified and secretly thrilled by it.

Noah Bennett is thirty-four, charming, observant, and impossible to rattle. He renovates old homes, knows everybody in town, and has a talent for appearing whenever Amelia is in the middle of a minor catastrophe. He seems easygoing, but he is careful with his heart and in no rush to fall in love.

June Hartley, Amelia’s matchmaking great-aunt in spirit if not in person, leaves behind a cottage, a garden full of opinionated wind chimes, and a circle of nosy friends who adopt Amelia on sight.

Waffles, Noah’s friendly escape-artist golden retriever, functions as an unlicensed couples therapist and frequently creates the exact situations Amelia and Noah would prefer to avoid.

Tessa Morales, Amelia’s best friend, is the only person who knew the wedding was a mistake. She sends supportive voice notes, chaotic advice, and increasingly absurd care packages.
