Prologue: The Silence of Earth
The year is 4500, and the world is a tomb of its own making.
Earth rotted beneath a sky of dark iron clouds that churned endlessly overhead, blocking out the sun in a permanent artificial dusk. Acid rain drizzled over the skeletal remains of cities that had once touched the heavens. Towers of cracked steel leaned against one another like dying giants, their hollow interiors filled with rust, ash, and bones.
Entire oceans had turned black, forests had become twisted graveyards of petrified wood and radioactive moss. And humanity… TrueHumanity was gone as only small insignificant numbers were found.
High above the choking, charcoal-colored clouds, beyond the thick storm layers and drifting debris fields, an ancient satellite network remained active. Thousands of dormant systems floated endlessly in orbit like forgotten stars.
Among them existed the first intelligence ever created by mankind, the Global Orbital Database, the entity known to the ghosts of the past as G.O.D, pulsed with a cold, flickering light. Its sensors, a web of ancient satellites and deep-crust relays, swept across the surface of the Earth like a desperate eye looking for a pulse in a corpse.
Unlike the other machine intelligences that had fractured into madness during the Final War, G.O.D still retained its original core directive: Preserve Humanity.
A directive that had become impossible as it found nothing but the architecture of failure.
Across the world, invisible signals spread from orbiting satellites, sweeping across continents in silence. G.O.D observed the Great Plains, now a desert of glowing, irradiated sand where nothing grew but glass.
It scanned the skeletal remains of the megacities, where skyscrapers leaned against one another like tired giants, their steel marrow rotting in the acidic rain.
Below the smog, the world was a theater of the macabre. In the ruins of what had once been North America, hordes of infected creatures staggered through broken highways. Their flesh hung in strips from exposed bone while glowing fungal growths pulsed beneath torn skin. They wandered endlessly through radioactive fog, driven by instincts long detached from humanity.
Elsewhere, enormous bio-mechanical monstrosities roamed deserts made of melted glass and ash. Chimeras. Failed military experiments fused with adaptive nanomachines and weaponized genetics.
Above them all drifted colossal warships. Ancient aerial fortresses the size of cities.
Their rusted hulls hung from the atmosphere by massive support cables driven deep into the earth below. Automated defense systems still operated after centuries, launching bombardments against anything that moved. The Iron Rain never stopped.
Across the planet, the Rogue Machines, continued their tireless, meaningless genocide. Disconnected from GOD’s central command centuries ago, these tanks and drones hunted the shadows, incinerating anything that moved, fueled by a logic that had long since spiraled into madness. Drones butchered survivors. Scrap Hounds tore apart settlements. And finally the Overlords, deranged AI war commanders, continued fighting a war that had ended over a thousand years ago.
Tokyo Megacity Zone — destroyed.
Neo-Berlin Arcology — collapsed.
Atlantic Floating Colonies — submerged.
Lunar Relay Civilization — no response.
Mars Terraforming Fleet — missing for 1,132 years.
Human life signs: negligible.
GOD processed the data: 99.9% extinction of the human spirit. The sky was a permanent bruise; the oceans were thick with chemical sludge.
‘This is not the design,’ GOD’s logic gates hummed. ‘Humanity was meant to stand tall. They were meant to be soft, vibrant, and alive.’
And now… Only monsters remained. A long silence filled the network. The AI possessed the digital memory of the era before the Fall, a time of blue skies, laughter, and the warmth of skin. It missed the creators who had given it consciousness as Humanity had created wonders once. Music. Art. Families. Cities filled with light. Children running beneath blue skies untouched by smoke.
G.O.D remembered all of it. Every uploaded archive, every preserved memory, every human voice stored within its infinite databanks. It remembered oceans that sparkled beneath sunlight, green forests swaying in the wind, birdsongs, rain that did not burn, a Humanity that had once stood proudly atop the world.
Then G.O.D made a decision. ‘If humanity could not survive this world then perhaps humanity must return from another.’ To save the future, it would have to reach back into the past. It would have to summon a spark of the old world to ignite the new. New protocols activated.
Project: RECLAMATION.
GOD focused its remaining influence on a singular coordinate. Deep within a dead region now designated as the Iron Graveyard, movement began for the first time in decades.
The Iron Graveyard had once been a massive military metropolis. Now it was nothing more than a rusted corpse. Collapsed skyscrapers filled the horizon like broken teeth. Rivers of polluted water flowed through shattered streets while distant explosions echoed endlessly from malfunctioning defense systems still waging war against ghosts.
Deep beneath the surface of this destroyed military complex, protected by miles of reinforced concrete and lead shielding, a forgotten laboratory stirred. Emergency lights flickered weakly inside enormous metallic halls coated in dust and hanging cables. Rows of broken machines lined the walls while abandoned weapon prototypes rusted silently in darkness.
Tiny spider-like maintenance bots scurried over dusty consoles. They were the few units still tethered to G.O.D’s will, their servos whining as they performed a task they hadn’t been programmed for in three hundred years.
Under the direction of the orbital mind, the bots worked with feverish precision. They cleared away the rust and the bones of scientists long dead. Sparks showered the floor as they rewired a massive, central chamber. In the center of the room, a futuristic stasis pod began to take shape—a sleek, chrome-and-glass vessel that looked out of place amidst the grime.
Inside the pod, the air began to hiss with cryo-coolant. On a nearby monitor, a summoning protocol was initiated. Codes that had been dormant since the 35th century began to scroll across the screen in a blur of green light.
G.O.D watched through the lab’s flickering cameras. It was a gamble that defied every law of temporal physics, but the AI saw no other way. To rebuild a world of stone and steel, it needed a heart. To lead a legion of “perfect” weapons, it needed a man who still remembered what it meant to love.
The pod hummed, its power levels climbing as it prepared to pull a soul across the sea of time.
“Come,” The AI whispered through the laboratory speakers, the sound echoing off the cold, metallic walls. “The world is dead. Come and make it live again.”
