Chapter 1
It was raining; she was walking through the park towards the tram. She was struggling to breathe, as if stones were tied to her feet, unable to move forward. She paused a few times, took deep breaths, and kept walking. Her hair was wet; her hand reached for the umbrella in her bag, but then she gave up. In the early hours of the morning, the park was completely empty. She had started the day without sleeping a wink, making a huge effort not to remember what had happened yesterday. Was it truly possible to completely erase certain days from one's mind?! Two blows received on the very same day were hurting her heart and her soul. The scent of rain carried her back to a day from the old times. Back when she was at university, going to the theater with her friends, walking and laughing heedlessly of the rain. How beautiful that day was… Her mother had caused her pain countless times, but this last betrayal would be hard to bear. "It's over," she whispered softly. "It's over... All those years of blaming myself, those times I held myself accountable for everything, they are over." She would feel the pain of mourning a living mother deep within her heart for a long time. She realized that some children are simply born unloved; she realized that some mothers must be ignored even while they are alive. She realized that no one would ever love a child whom their own mother didn't love. In this huge world, nobody would ever know she was moving on with life carrying such a heavy burden. She noticed she had reached the station with the honking sound of the approaching tram from afar... Life was going on...
