Rima chaudhary Looking down, standing over the bridge, my eyes were so lost as they stared at the vast, sea beneath. As I looked at the crashing, large waves, a bitter tear rolled down my cheek. "He left me with nothing. I loved him selflessly... so why did he do this to me? Why destroy me in such a painful way?" Looking at the dark waves, I took a trembling step closer to the edge. Even in my last, moment, I am just longing for him even when I know, deep down, he never loved me the way I loved him. Chp 1

Unknown pov

A 10 year old boy was running in the middle of the road, dodging every bike and car as their headlights blinded him. The rain was pouring heavily, making him unable to see clearly in the night.

A packet of bread was held tightly in his small fist. Tears were rolling down his sunken cheeks, mixing with the rain, as he ran fast for his life with his bare feet. At the same time, a few people were running after him, shouting, "Thief!"

He took a sharp turn and bolted into the small forest. A few minutes later, finally getting rid of them, his knees gave up. He collapsed near a large tree, which shielded him from getting even more drenched in the downpour.

He was panting, taking lungfuls of air, as he slid down to sit with his back resting against the rough tree trunk. His hands and feet were covered in filth, and the clothes he once loved had become nothing more than rags, torn and barely hanging onto his thin frame. With trembling fingers, he hurriedly opened the packet of bread.

He took two stale slices, biting into them hungrily. He wiped his tears, keeping his gaze down, terrified that someone might snatch his meager prize away. How many days had he been starving? He couldn't remember. Today, the hunger became unbearable, so he had stolen from an open shop. He had tried to ask the owner for help, but they had only shoved him away.

Crumbling the empty packet and shoving it into his small pocket the painful knot of hunger still tight in his stomach a broken sob escaped his small lips. It had been a month since his parents died. He didn't truly understand what "dead" meant, when he had asked his uncle, the man had replied cruelly that they had left him forever and would never come back.

His uncle had then abandoned him on the streets. He remembered waking up in the morning to find himself near a garbage bin. He had cried for hours in pure terror, lost in a place far from his hometown. It was so scary here,no one was kind to him.

He desperately missed his parents

their warm embrace and the comfort of his home. Sniffing and hiccuping, he remembered his father, who used to protect him when his mother shouted, and the way they would hide together to eat candy, only to get caught every single time.

He didn't know what to do, how to find his way back, or whom to ask for help. He had been roaming the streets ever since, crying and mourning the ghosts of his past. Eventually, exhaustion overtook him, and he fell asleep in the wet mud, curling his small body into a ball. As the rain continued to fall and the cold wind blew, dry, wet leaves drifted down, acting as a blanket for his small, shivering frame.

He emerged from the forest back onto the street just as the sun began to shine brightly in the sky. His clothes were dry now, but thick, hardened mud was stuck everywhere. He tried to wipe himself clean with his rag like T-shirt, but it was no use. His small, brown eyes darted around nervously, still trembling with the fear that the shop owner would catch him and beat him. He had seen people get beaten brutally for stealing, left lying on the pavement without a single movement in their broken bodies.

Terrified, he took the long route, walking with his blistered bare feet, completely unaware that his life was about to change forever.

At that same moment, a black Mercedes past him. Inside, a small girl sat playing with her doll, giggling with her family, unaware of the dark storm that was just behind her.

And, the game of destiny and karma began.

The Heir's Shadow

Biva: Quite good for a novella. Impressive writing style and we'll edited. Just one thing- Karla keeps referring herself to a stray cat and while at first it makes sense the analogy gets stale after a while.
