Greg is a teenager who, together with his brother, ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. It happened while they were driving with their parents in a car that got into a crash. It was the moment when the most precious thing was taken away before the children’s eyes — their parents’ lives. Because the accident was anything but accidental. The people responsible had no idea there were children in the car, so they never noticed them. But the children saw and heard everything, and that event changed them forever. Especially Greg, who from that moment on desired revenge more than anything else in the world.
So, the main character of this story is Greg. Not only does the responsibility for his much younger brother fall onto his shoulders, but also the management of a massive family business. As he grows older and receives a higher education, he gradually becomes involved in the company’s affairs. And one day, he finally takes the lead of an enormous corporation. Of course, not everyone is pleased with a young and inexperienced man being in charge. Most of them have their own interests and “schemes.” But Greg clearly defines his own boundaries and rules. Now there are only a few people around whom he allows himself to be genuine with. To everyone else, he appears cynical, cold, restrained, harsh, and arrogant.
The story turned out to be very large-scale and detailed. It begins in 1989 and spans several decades. It contains dynamics, drama, action, revenge, loss, healing, diamonds, enormous wealth, traitors, a touch of mysticism, and, of course, love. I read it with great excitement and never wanted to put the book down. The only thing was that at one point I became a little confused by the names because there are many characters in the story.
Overall, this is a strong, dynamic, and dramatic story about the journey of healing from pain and from a past that refuses to let go. I especially loved Sam and Margaret — characters who were always there as support for Greg and his brother Leo. I also liked that even in this story, dark as the night at times, light still broke through because of certain people and events.
My thanks to the author for this story, and to the publishing house for the opportunity to read the book before its official release 📖 This is an advance copy, so the cover design, layout, and font will all be different in the final edition.
