Legal Prejudice

Max Russell sat back looking at his HR partner, “What do you think Hane? London seem keen to offload this girl onto us, which seems kinda strange if they rate her the way they say they do.”

Hane looked at the thin file on the desk in front of them, casting his eye back over it before answering. “Well, her HR record is clean, so there’s nothing official to explain why they’d want rid of her. What did you think from the video interview?”

Max shrugged, “I must be getting old; she didn’t look old enough to be graduating law school let alone have all that experience.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean,” Hane laughed “it’s not just you, I thought she’d be older too. She seemed able to handle all your questions, but given she admitted the move wasn’t her idea I wonder if she’d cope on a personal level with living over here.”

“Well,” Max sighed, “if we don’t take her, she’ll have spent a year studying for the bar for nothing, and we’ll have spent a ton of cash getting her through it. Bottom line is we need someone based here for the UK stuff because I can’t handle chasing Nigel to prioritise our cases. It’s slowing us up and we’ll lose business. We tried letting them recruit more resource in London and it’s got us nowhere; we still can’t get our stuff done.”

Hane stretched, “So what do you want me to do?”

Max grabbed the file and spun it ’round looking at the photograph, “I think I’ll ask Daniel to oversee her for the first couple of months. He can keep an eye on how she’s doing, and he won’t scare her off.”

Hane chuckled, “How’s he doing Max? Still living with you and Margie?”

Max nodded smiling, “Yeah, don’t tell him I said so, but we’ve kinda enjoyed having him. He’s started looking for an apartment. Carrie’s not going to let him move back in and he needs somewhere he can bring Emmie.” He closed the file, “Right, let her know it’s a yes and arrange to get her over so she can meet some folks in the office and sort out somewhere to live. I’ll talk to Dan about it tonight.”
