I never knew this day would come. Well, I did. Eight months ago actually. But I never knew this day would come so fast. Me, Kaia Shandon, the quiet shy kid who always hid at the back of the class, the kid who was always teased for wishing for something that would "never happen to someone like me". Well, this fourteen-year-old "kid" is moving to England. To H.A.P.A.
I'm your average Australian girl, light tan skin, almost-invisible brown freckles that splays my face, the whole kick-kaboodle. Some people say that they wish they could have my eyes. My eyes are an unusual green, I would say Sea Green...? Have you ever been to the beach and look out to the ocean, and near the shore, the water has a green hue? That's the colour of my eyes.
Some say that my eyes look magical, others, such as Brittany Venner, say that my eyes make me look like a witch. The same goes with my hair. I truthfully like my hair, it's a milk chocolate brown that reaches my waist, it isn't straight or has corkscrews. It falls in natural beach curls, and I wouldn't straighten it for the world! Brittany, the girl in my class who likes to humiliate me, always talks about her, quote-unquote, silky blonde hair that flutters in the wind. Honestly, she bleaches it too much, it "flutters" in the wind because it's so thin.
Ever since I was five and saw people doing backflips and pirouettes on my favourite movie Solo Assembly, I've always wanted to dance. Dance is my life, it's my soul. I have been going to dance classes for eight years, learning ballet, breakdance and contemporary. I wanted more knowledge, I wanted to learn new styles of dance.
Then my dance teacher told me about H.A.P.A, a reputable dance institution where only the best go. And the best become better. She told me that she believed that I would do great things in life, that I would be one of the greatest dancers in history.
I told my parents about H.A.P.A and how I wanted to audition to get into it. Unfortunately, my parents did not see my view. Considering that H.A.P.A was in England, on the other side of the world, a city that was thousands of miles away from my home, Brisbane, Australia. But I continued to beg my parents, for two years. But they told me that they wouldn't let me go to England alone, ever.
But two years later, they told me that we were moving. Moving to the home of that reputable dance institution...
