Chapter 1:- The Role I Was Given

"Seraphine, you can't do this to me!"

Elin's voice tore through the grand hall, hitting marble pillars before it echoed back to him.

He looks around, seeing whispers bloom behind fluttering fans and silk sleeves. His gaze then falls on Seraphine, standing far too close to Sir Asheville and Sir Asheville's arm draped around her like it belonged there.

"This day was supposed to be ours....yet here you are with some lowly knight...." Elin's voice trembles with fury as his hands curl up into fists.

"Elin, please...." Seraphine's voice wavered. Hesitant. Small.

"Your highness," Sir Asheville interjects, "this is no way to speak to a lady," he says as his hands find the hilt of his sword.

Elin laughs, cruel and soft, "Oh, I didn't know I was supposed to heed the words of a knight...."

"Enough."

Emperor Aldric's voice cuts through the hall, making whispers pause.

Elin turns, hope flaring for a moment as he hears his father's voice before dying down just as quickly.

"Elin," Emperor Aldric says, voice stern, "this behavior is unbecoming of a prince. Seraphine here has displayed courage and you dare to react this way? I didn't raise you to be like this....I can hardly believe you are my son...." he says as he sighs in disappointment.

The words strike Elin like a rain of spears.

Elin falters as he looks at his father's expression. His gaze searches the crowd, finding his mother but she only stands there with her hands folded neatly like she had nothing to do with what was happening.

Elin grits his teeth, clenching his jaw as his gaze falls back on Seraphine, "she has been mine from the start. And I'm taking her."

Elin approaches Seraphine, his hand reaching out to grab her—

—splash

The sickening sound of blood splattering on marble echoes as Elin's head falls to the floor, rolling before coming to a stop.

Sir Asheville's lips curl in disgust as he removes his bloodstained gloves and tosses them aside like filth.

He then turns to Seraphine as his thumb strokes her cheek, "now, no one will stand in our way...."

Seraphine smiles as she intertwines her fingers with his. The pair lovingly stands at the altar—

—"Bullshit."

Haru says, tossing the book aside as he scoffs. "The entire book sucks. Especially this scene. The random info-dumps, politics magically playing out in Seraphine's favor. Ugh, all of it was just trash."

Haru flops down on the bed and buries his face in his pillow, groaning, "the villain was so obviously wronged. It's like the author just wanted characters in certain situations. The book felt staged."

Haru sighs and his eyes flutter shut, sleep claiming him, leaving his thoughts incomplete.

Light filters through the curtains and falls on Haru's features. Haru groans as he pulls the blanket over his head. He then rubbed the sleep from his eyes, slowly opening them.

As he sat up in bed his gaze fell on his bed. This wasn't his plain bed. In it's place there was a wide bed covered in silk sheets, far too big for a single person.

What the....where am I....?

Confusion made it's way on his face as he stumbled out of bed. He took in his surroundings. There was minimal furniture but still extravagant. Pristine. The windows in the room were draped with silk curtains.

Then, he saw in the corner of the room a mahogany dressing table and a giant gold-framed mirror in the corner. He approached it with quick, unsteady steps. As he stood infront of it, the reflection that greeted him wasn't his own.

Smooth brown hair, brown eyes shimmering from the sunlight, soft pampered skin and delicate hands that hadn't seen a day of hard labor.

Recognition hit like ice.

"This....this is Elin...."

"Wait...." Haru whispered.

"Have I....transmigrated as Elin....?"
