The New Class Teacher
Episode 1: The New Class Teacher
People say high school becomes the most unforgettable part of your life.
Honestly?
For me, it mostly felt like stress, unfinished homework, and mathematics trying to destroy my future every single day.
My name is Han Yuna.
I study at Haneul High School in Busan.
I have one annoying best friend, an older brother who enjoys ruining my self-respect daily, and parents who think entrance exam marks decide whether you survive adulthood or not.
Especially my father.
“52?!”
Yep.
That was exactly how my morning started.
My math test paper rested on the dining table while my father stared at it like it personally betrayed the family bloodline.
“Do you even study?” he asked seriously.
“I do…” I mumbled quietly while eating rice like it was my last meal.
My brother suddenly laughed beside me.
“At this point, even the numbers are scared of her.”
I kicked his leg under the table immediately.
“YAH!”
Mom sighed tiredly while fixing my uniform collar.
“Yuna, this is your final year now. You can’t keep getting marks like this.”
I stayed quiet.
Because honestly…
I was tired too.
By the time I reached school, my mood was already ruined.
Students filled the front gate noisily while I walked through the hallway half asleep.
Then suddenly—
“Han Yuna!”
I turned around just in time for my best friend Sera to throw a strawberry milk into my hands dramatically.
“For emotional support,” she announced proudly.
“You act like I went through a breakup.”
“You did,” she replied seriously.
“With mathematics.”
That was Choi Sera.
Loud. Dramatic. Chaotic.
And somehow still the best person in my life.
Haneul High School looked prettier during rainy days. 🌧️
The old windows, the sound of students running through hallways, cherry blossom trees moving softly outside the classrooms…
Sometimes it felt like life could actually become a drama scene.
Unfortunately, my life was more like a survival documentary.
First period started quietly.
Until our math teacher began returning test papers.
Again.
A few students behind me laughed softly after seeing my score.
“She failed again?”
“How is she this bad at math?”
I quickly pulled the paper closer before anyone else could see it.
My cheeks burned from embarrassment instantly.
I hated moments like this.
The whispers...The pity...The quiet laughter.
But before I could hide the paper completely, Sera suddenly grabbed it dramatically.
She looked at my score for two seconds before standing up.
“Okay first of all,” she announced loudly,
“a 52 is not failing emotionally.”
The class burst into laughter.
Even I laughed a little.
Choi Sera sat back down proudly.
“See? Public relations management.”
A few minutes later, our class teacher entered the classroom carrying several files.
But strangely… she looked excited.
“Everyone settle down,” she said while smiling mysteriously.
The class slowly became quiet.
Then she spoke again.
“Starting today, your mathematics teacher will change.”
The room instantly exploded with noise.
“Really?!”
“Why?”
“Please don’t let the new teacher be strict.”
Our teacher smiled again.
“And from now on…”
She paused dramatically.
“He’ll also become your new class teacher.”
Wait.
What?
The classroom door slowly opened before anyone could react further.
And suddenly…
everything became quiet.
A tall young man stepped inside wearing a dark coat slightly wet from the rain outside.
Calm expression.
Sharp eyes.
Black hair slightly falling across his forehead.
Not smiling.
Not nervous.
Just calm.
Too calm.
He placed a file on the desk before looking toward the class.
“Good morning.”
Even his voice sounded serious.
“My name is Kang Jiho.”
The girls around me immediately started whispering excitedly.
Meanwhile I was mentally preparing for academic suffering.
Class started immediately after that.
Jiho-sir wrote formulas across the board smoothly while explaining everything clearly.
Everyone focused seriously.
Except me.
Because after five minutes, I was already lost.
Again.
The bell finally rang.
Students quickly surrounded Jiho-sir asking questions while some girls fixed their hair for absolutely no reason.
I quietly grabbed my bag and escaped toward the door.
Then—
“Han Yuna.”
I froze instantly.
Slowly turning around, I realized Jiho-sir was looking directly at me.
“Come to the teacher’s office.”
My soul peacefully left my body.
The teacher’s office felt unusually quiet.
Rain tapped softly against the windows while Jiho-sir looked through my test papers one by one.
The silence itself felt scary.
Then finally—
he placed the papers down.
“These scores are serious.”
Ouch.
Direct emotional damage.
I lowered my head quietly.
“Do you even understand what I taught today?”
“…A little.”
He looked at me silently for a few seconds.
Somehow that felt worse than shouting.
Then he sighed softly.
“From tomorrow onward, stay after school.”
My eyes widened immediately.
“…What?”
“I’m not letting one of my students fail.”
And somehow…
for the first time that day—
my heartbeat became strangely louder than the rain outside.
