My Lucky Gumboots

It was a rainy day and the streets were clogged with water. There was chaos all around I knew I should have gone to my duty but on that particular morning I felt lazy. In my early life I was a constable at Lucknow.

My birthday had passed recently and I was gifted a pair of gumboots by my colleagues. Finally, I decided I couldn’t stand it anymore so I got out of bed and dressed in my uniform. I went out of my apartment and called a taxi. At one point the taxi got stuck in the mud and I realized that I had to walk after all, so I paid the driver and went my way. It certainly wasn’t easy but I was glad that I had the sense to wear my galoshes. I was surprised at the galoshes as it made it harder to wade in water since my last pair was actually useful. I turned a corner and gazed in horror at the terrible sight-lightning had struck a wire and it had caught fire, torching the Lucknow 🚓 station and at that moment I realized how lucky I was that my gumboots were useless. Next day I read in the newspaper two policemen had died and there were few survivors!I still have the lucky gumboots in my cupboard and I never forget to take them out on a rainy day.
