We Write

What are you doing Bailey?” asked Schae.

“Reading!” I responded in a terse voice as I glanced back at her.

“Are you on that site again? We Write something or the other?” she asked skeptically.

“Yes, Schae I am! What’s it to you?” I barked.

“Whoa, whoa, don’t get smart with me, I am only asking, you are my little sister and they are a million creeps on the internet.”

She didn’t have to tell me, I knew all about internet creeps.

“Okay, okay” I stated soothingly. “I am being careful, just stop hassling me.” I acquiesced.

My sister was a good person and she usually meant well but she had an uncanny knack for reminding you of your transgressions. Trust me, Sis, I was aware of my mistakes.

Turning away, Schae shuffled into the kitchen; her domain. She was an executive chef for one of the island’s primer five-star hotels. After spending the whole day in a kitchen, she came home and spent more time in it. I often asked if she didn’t get sick of it, but it seemed not. I had come to the conclusion that when you loved what you do, it didn’t feel like work. But it sure looked like work to me.

Touching my mouse I continued to scroll through We Write. I was looking for a particular member’s work. He was brilliant. And not a day passed where I did not clamor to read his answers. His most recent one was about if everyone could be successful spoke to me in ways that he could not have possibly intended when he wrote it. Did he even know how his writing affected people? Here I was in Barbados and he was on the other side of the world impacting my life on a daily basis.
