Chapter 1

📖 CHAPTER 1 — The Clip
The video was only twelve seconds long.
Twelve seconds.
That was all it took.
No context. No explanation. No sound that mattered enough to clarify anything.
Just Tiana standing near a hallway corner.
Just Damiere standing a few steps away.
Just eye contact that lasted slightly too long to be ignored.
And then—
the upload.
---
By the time Tiana reached home that day, it had already started spreading.
At first, it was small.
A repost.
Then another.
Then a caption:
> “WHO IS THIS GIRL AND WHY IS HE LOOKING AT HER LIKE THAT?”
Tiana frowned when she saw it.
She didn’t even recognize herself at first.
Not because the video was unclear.
But because it looked… too simple.
Too harmless to be turning into noise.
She scrolled.
Another post.
Then another.
Now it wasn’t just one page.
It was everywhere.
---
💬 COMMENTS:
> “This feels like a main character moment ngl”
> “Why does he look rich and mysterious??”
> “She looks like she doesn’t even know he’s there but she DOES”
> “This is definitely not random”
Tiana sat down slowly.
Her phone felt heavier in her hand now.
“What is this…” she muttered.
---
The door behind her opened.
Her friend leaned in, already smiling.
“Girl, why are you trending?”
Tiana blinked. “I’m what?”
Her friend turned the phone screen toward her.
Her name wasn’t fully there yet.
But her face was.
Her school uniform.
Her moment.
Frozen and replayed like it meant something it didn’t.
“I didn’t do anything,” Tiana said immediately.
Her friend shrugged.
“Doesn’t matter. People already decided you did.”
That line stayed in the air longer than it should have.
---
Later that night, Tiana tried to ignore it.
She really did.
But the internet doesn’t wait for permission to grow.
By 9:00 PM, the clip had changed.
It wasn’t just the original anymore.
It was slowed down.
Zoomed in.
Replayed from different angles.
Someone had added music.
Someone else added captions.
Now it wasn’t a hallway moment.
It was a story.
And she wasn’t in control of it anymore.
---
Meanwhile, across the city…
Damiere Cole saw it too.
But his reaction was different.
He didn’t scroll past it quickly.
He didn’t laugh.
He didn’t comment.
He watched it once.
Then again.
And then he paused on the frame where Tiana looked up.
Something in his expression tightened slightly.
Not confusion.
Recognition.
Like the moment was familiar in a way he couldn’t immediately explain.
---
His phone vibrated.
A new message.
Unknown number.
No name.
Just text:
> “Interesting pairing.”
Damiere stared at it.
Didn’t reply.
Just locked the screen.
---
Back in her room, Tiana refreshed her feed again.
Now her name appeared.
Not fully trending yet.
But close.
Close enough to feel real.
Close enough to feel uncomfortable.
She whispered to herself:
“This is getting out of hand…”
Then her phone buzzed again.
A notification.
A new post.
Same clip.
But different caption:
> “THIS WAS RECORDED ON PURPOSE.”
Tiana froze.
“…What?”
And somewhere far away—
someone else was still watching.
Still editing.
Still deciding what her story would become next.
