Morning survival: university edition

Allen’s POV

I have officially decided that marriage ruined James Williams.

Not emotionally.

Mentally.

Because the man who once denied liking Jessica for half his life now carried backup schedules for her like an emotional support husband.

And unfortunately for me—

I had front row seats to this disaster every day.

---

“ALLEN!”

Jessica’s voice echoed through the house.

I didn’t even react anymore.

At this point hearing screaming before university had become part of my morning routine.

---

“What?” I yelled back.

“WHERE’S MY SCHEDULE?”

I looked around the kitchen dramatically.

“Hm. Not here. Maybe the schedule fairy stole it.”

“THIS ISN’T FUNNY.”

“It’s a little funny.”

---

James walked into the kitchen calmly while fixing his watch.

Unlike the rest of us, he looked completely normal.

Actually offensive behavior honestly.

---

“Stop annoying her,” he said.

I stared at him.

“You married chaos and now you’re blaming me?”

Jordan walked in half asleep.

Looked around once.

And immediately turned back.

“No.”

James grabbed his arm before he could escape.

“You live here.”

Jordan looked devastated.

---

Jessica finally came downstairs looking completely stressed.

Bag falling off one shoulder.

Phone in hand.

Hair messy.

And somehow James still looked at her like she personally invented happiness.

Actually disgusting.

---

“I’m late,” Jessica announced dramatically.

I looked at the clock.

“You’ve been late since birth.”

She pointed at me instantly.

“This is your fault.”

“How.”

“You distracted me.”

“I literally breathed near you.”

---

James calmly opened his bag.

“Your schedule.”

Jessica blinked.

“…What?”

He pulled out a folded paper.

“I printed another one.”

Silence.

Complete silence.

---

I slowly put my spoon down.

“You printed her BACKUP schedule?”

James looked confused.

“Yes.”

Jessica grabbed it dramatically.

“Oh my God, I love you.”

I physically recoiled.

Jordan covered his face.

“Can we not do this before breakfast?”

---

I pointed at James.

“You see? THIS is why she loses things. Because you solve every problem like a customer service representative.”

Jessica gasped.

“He cares about me.”

“He’s enabling you.”

---

James calmly drank his coffee like this conversation happened daily.

Which honestly it probably did.

---

Twenty minutes later we finally left for university.

And somehow—

SOMEHOW—

Jessica still managed to fall behind.

I genuinely believed she experienced time differently from the rest of humanity.

---

The second we entered campus, people started congratulating James.

Apparently everyone found out about the wedding already.

Which was terrible news for him.

Excellent news for me.

---

“Yo James!”

“Congratulations!”

“Married life looks good on you!”

I looked at him proudly.

“You’re famous now. We should start charging people for interactions.”

James sighed quietly.

“It’s eight in the morning.”

“Exactly. Prime business hours.”

---

We walked toward the main building where some of James’ old friends were standing.

And immediately—

I smiled.

Because these idiots used to tease James constantly about Jessica.

And now the man had literally married her.

Cinema honestly.

---

One of the guys grinned immediately.

“Well if it isn’t James Williams.”

Another looked emotional.

“The same James who said romance was distracting.”

I nodded seriously.

“He’s currently married and printing emergency schedules for his wife.”

James looked at me.

“I trusted you with information.”

“And I weaponized it.”

---

Then another friend looked around dramatically.

“Where’s Jessica?”

And right on cue—

from somewhere across campus—

we heard screaming.

---

“JAMESS!”

Every single person turned.

Including birds probably.

---

And there she was.

Running across campus holding papers horribly while looking completely stressed.

Honestly she looked like somebody told her graduation was happening in five minutes.

---

Before James could even respond—

I yelled loudly:

“HE’S TAKEN.”

Jessica pointed at me while still running.

“ALLEN SHUT UP.”

One of James’ friends almost collapsed laughing.

---

Jessica finally reached us out of breath.

“James have you seen my schedule?!”

Complete silence.

Then all the guys started laughing immediately.

LOUDLY.

---

One of them pointed dramatically.

“No way this is real.”

Another guy looked at James.

“This is the same man who used to say ‘we’re just friends’?”

I wiped fake tears.

“Character development is beautiful.”

---

Jessica finally noticed everyone staring at her.

“…Oh.”

Too late now honestly.

---

James calmly opened his bag again.

And pulled out another folded paper.

“I printed two.”

Silence.

Jessica blinked slowly.

“…You printed TWO?”

“Yes.”

“I lost the first one.”

“I expected that.”

---

One of James’ friends stared at him in disbelief.

“You carry backup schedules for your wife?”

Before James could answer—

I immediately jumped in.

“He also carries emotional support water bottles.”

Jessica gasped dramatically.

“THAT HAPPENED ONE TIME.”

“You got thirsty emotionally.”

“I hate you.”

---

Jordan stood beside us looking exhausted already.

“I want everyone here to know I’m not related to these people.”

I pointed at James and Jessica.

“And here we observe the married species in their natural habitat.”

Jessica grabbed James’ arm instantly.

“Stop narrating us!”

I gasped loudly.

“PHYSICAL CONTACT IN PUBLIC?”

James finally looked at me calmly.

“At least someone willingly holds my hand.”

Silence.

Absolute silence.

The friends exploded laughing.

Jordan physically walked away.

And Jessica looked like she was dying.

---

I stared at James in betrayal.

“You used emotional violence.”

“You started it.”

“You were supposed to stay quiet and mysterious after marriage.”

Jessica nodded seriously.

“Yeah, now he fights back.”

James looked at me calmly.

“I learned from you.”

Honestly?

Worst mistake of my life.
