Summary

For centuries, people believed memories lived only within us. They were wrong. A forgotten school desk remembers the hands that carved promises into its surface. A streetlamp watches loneliness pass beneath it night after night. A cracked mirror carries the reflections of strangers who no longer recognize themselves. Deep within quiet rooms and abandoned corners, ordinary objects bear witness to the fragile, beautiful weight of human life. In Don't Forget Me, each story is told through the eyes of something left behind—silent observers of love, grief, fear, hope, and the countless moments people never realize they leave behind. Tender, unsettling, and quietly haunting, this collection explores what remains after voices fade, doors close, and lives move on. Because forgotten things do not forget.

Author’s Note

Some stories are loud.

They arrive with endings, answers, and names meant to be remembered.

These stories are quieter.

They live in forgotten corners, inside ordinary objects people stop noticing after enough time passes. A desk. A mirror. A train seat. A dying streetlamp. Things that remain still while human lives move around them like weather.

I began writing this collection because I wondered what the world might look like through the eyes of something incapable of leaving. Objects witness us differently than people do. They remember habits instead of histories. Small moments instead of grand ones. The way someone taps their fingers while anxious. The silence after an argument. The shape loneliness leaves in a room after midnight.

Many of these stories are about memory. Others are about grief, change, fear, or the quiet ways people disappear from one another long before they are truly gone.

But more than anything, this collection is about being seen.

Even when we believe our lives are temporary, unnoticed, or forgotten, traces of us remain somewhere. In places we touched. In things we carried. In rooms that learned our voices by heart.

Maybe that is comforting.

Or maybe it is haunting.

Either way—

the world remembers more than we think.
