Chapter 1
It all began with this young girl, 16, 17, or maybe younger, this catholic girl would become our mother, here in the beginning of her blossoming as a women she records classroom situations with her school mates, the nuns who taught them, discusses her mother and the events of the day. Not all at once but in little note book pages.
1947-1948: My Diary was written by Betty Kilroy, at this point I am not sure if there are breaks in days or weeks or if it is continuous from Saturday February 1, 1947, she went shopping with her mom, bought shoes, didn’t go out because she did have anywhere to go.
Where would she have gone? It’s Saturday, to a dance, roller skating, or to the movies, did she just hang out with her friends in their homes? Through the diary she along with her friends attend many of those activities, as well as school and church.
later in the pages of the diary are movie ticket stubs, naming the films she had seen, mentioning the the main stars. There is nothing about whoL she went with yet the movies were a regular, almost daily event, besides going to school.
The mid to late forties in America were beginning to head in an economic raise until the 70's. Automobiles were a big seller, mortgages where easier to come by and there was work for regular folks to be able to enjoy life once again. In Camden, Campbells soup, RCA, department stores, Bell Telephone, keep the city moving during the depression and well passed the war years, prosperity was on the rise.
