Chapter 1: The Message That Changed Everything
It was 11 PM when I got the first message.
Sender: Ahmad Dan Girma
Profile Picture: A smiling guy with a Benz in the background.
Message: "You’re the girl I’ve been looking for the past two years. I want to marry you."
My heart started beating fast.
I’m Zainab. A regular village girl who’s never even bought a ₦5000 pair of shoes.
But on Facebook, I’m a princess.
Two weeks later, Ahmad said he wanted to come meet my parents.
So I sent him ₦80,000 for his flight ticket.
Today was the day he said he’d arrive.
But his phone is off.
When I went to my cousin Sadiq’s house, I saw his phone charging.
And his WhatsApp profile picture was Ahmad.
That’s when it hit me:
The man I thought wanted to marry me… is my own cousin.
What will happen tomorrow morning when my parents find out?
