Knock-off Spell

“I’m not a spy! Get your grubby hands off me!” Great, here I was stuck, who knows where, being thrown in some underground prison. If it weren’t for the bruises and pain from the guards' beating, I’d swear I was dreaming. They threw me in a plain cell with three solid walls, and the front wall seemed to be a forcefield of some kind. Well, at least I know I’m in a semi-advanced world.

I paced my cell, trying to survey the dimly lit prison. I could hear dozens of voices, so I know I’m not alone down here, but where was here? Only this morning, I was on a lovely planet with lush green plants and crystal blue lakes, but no, I was bored. I just had to try out a new spell book. I was trying to travel back in time and see a live Shakespeare performance, and somehow, ended up here. Well, that’s the last time I order from them!

“What do you people have against lights!” I yelled at the forcefield, “Can’t a girl get some music and books around here?”

“What are you prattling on about? Are you mad?” a male voice growled from across the hallway. In the dim lighting, I could only make out a tall, lanky silhouette.

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t realize I had a roommate.”

“Roommate?” he scoffed. “You realize you’re in the dungeons, right? Do you plan on yelling the entire time you’re here?”

His condescending tone was really getting on my nerves. “Listen, buddy, I don’t know who you are, but I’m not that kind of crazy, and if I want to yell, then I’ll yell. But don’t worry, I won’t be here long. I just have to figure out where I am, so I can leave.”

I figured he would yell again, but no, he started laughing at me - the nerve of this jerk! When I do get out of here, I’m going to slap him across the face before I leave. “What’s so bloody funny?”

“You. The fact that you think you can just walk out of the dungeons.” He stepped closer to the forcefield in his cell, and I swear my heart stopped. I knew that face, but it wasn’t possible. My heart felt like it was caught in my throat when he spoke again. “Odin put you here for a reason, and you won’t leave until he says so, pet.” His green eyes locked with mine for a moment, and he smirked. “Ahh, I see the realization of your plight is setting in. Maybe now you’ll quiet down.”

I’m sure I looked like a lunatic, mouth open, just staring at him, but I had no words. How the hell did I end up in a movie script? This wasn’t even a real world. What kind of knock-off, dime-store crap was that bookstore selling, and how the hell do I get out of here? Those stupid guards took the book and my potions when they grabbed me. I started pacing and mumbling to myself, glancing up at him every so often, trying to reason this out. Great, I hadn’t seen the movies in a long time, so I was a bit lost on what comes next. This was after he tried to take over Earth, but before Hela.
