Chapter 1

The mission was supposed to be easy. Collect the necessary hydra information, and leave. But you're an avenger, not everything works out.

You sprint down the halls, eyes scanning the compound for the room you've been assigned to, your boots thumping against the hard concrete floors.

“y/n, you okay?” Tony's voice bleeds in your ears.

“All good” you mutter, holding a finger to your ear.

Turning a corner, a sudden force sends you flying back.

A bomb.

Groaning, you regain your footing quickly, and ignore the pain sprouting from your abdomen.

You force your legs to keep moving.

“What was that?” Steve asks through comms.

“Was that you y/n?” he's breathing hard, obviously fighting.

“I'm fine” you grunt.

The building groans from above you, reminding you of the little time you have.

Finally you find the room after fighting through hoards of hydra agents.

You hack through a computer's firewall instantly, being Tony Stark's best friend has its perks.

While the information is downloading, you finally acknowledge the pain in your abdomen.

You place a hand carefully on your wound, almost crying from the pain. Pulling your hand back you realise you're bleeding.

The thick, warm substance covers your hand instantly, making your head spin.

“Crap.” you mutter, wiping your bloodied hands on your trousers.

The ping from the computer grabs your attention, alerting you of your finished mission.

You grab the usb, turn and sprint out of there, wasting no time.

Your head grows lighter and lighter, you ignore it.

“Just make it out” you tell yourself, over and over again.

You finally burst through the doors of the compound, the welcoming outside air flooding your lungs.

In the quinjet, you smile, talk and pretend you aren't in the most pain you’ve ever been in.

You don't tell them, you don't want to be a burden. You figure you can get home and stitch yourself up with no trouble.

Tony notices your pale face and your slower reaction time, but doesn't push. He assumes you are just tired. Like everyone else.

When you arrive at the avengers tower, you stumble through the door. Almost falling before Thor holds you steady, his big hands steady against your trembling frame.

“Hey, hey little warrior, are you okay?” worry lines his face as he watches you alongside the rest of the avengers.

“Just-j… just tired..” you barely make out, hating how slurred your voice has become.

“No.. y/n you're bleeding!” Bruce says from behind Thor.

“I just— just need to sit down.” you say, pulling out of thor’s grip.

You don't make it two steps before your knees buckle and you hit the floor fast.

“What happened?! Why did you not tell us?” Tony asks frantically.

“FRIDAY full scan” he demands, Bruce is already checking wounds.

“y/n has two fractured ribs and a deep wound on her lower right abdomen. Condition critical.” the ai’s voice rings out.

That's when you realise how serious your wound is.

Your eyes start to grow heavier and heavier, threatening unconsciousness.

Clint notices “hey hey hey!” he shouts, lightly slapping your face.

You force your eyes open, your heart to keep on beating, you're stronger than this. You are an avenger.

“Get- get her to medbay!” Tony demands. “Thor- Thor carry her to medbay!” Thor doesn't waste a second, he gently, but swiftly pulls your broken body into his arms and carries you to medbay, you cling to his broad shoulders, his muscles tense under your touch.

The next eight hours pass in a blur, you drift in and out of consciousness, hanging on by a thread.

Tony and Bruce dont stop working on getting you better, nat won't eat, thor refuses to move from your side, sam hasnt stopped pacing and asking about you, steve and bucky stand guard by your door, as if protecting you.

Too bad they couldn't protect you from this.

You lost a lot of blood.

After hours of surgery and suspense, Bruce left your room to update the group.

Bruce's eyes are red. The bags under his eyes are dark, he's exhausted from working so hard.

As soon as Bruce walks in the group practically jumps from their seats, fear and suspense coiled in their muscles.

“Shes gonna be okay.” he finally says. The tension in the room instantly disappears, shoulders droop, and there are many sighs of relief.

“Can we see her?” nat says suddenly, relaying what's on everyone's mind.

“Yes, but she is asleep at the moment. She'll be out for most of the day." Clint's stomach twists from his words, how could he let this happen?

Stev, bucky, clint, and nat all rush into your room, wanting to be by your side.

You look different. So different since they last saw you.

Your skin is a deathly shade of pale, the sounds of beeping machines surrounding you.

Tubes are attached to your arms, giving you the vital energy you need.

After hours of waiting, you start to regain consciousness in chunks.

First comes your hearing, you pick up the sounds of the beeping machines around you, the breathing of someone next to you.

You force your eyes open, your vision blurring before focusing.

Panic bubbles in you when you don't recognise your surroundings.

Flashes of your past hit you like a truck, you jump up, breathing hard.

“HEY! Hey whoa! Tony's voice.

“Steady y/n” Thor's voice.

“W-where where am i?” you croak, relaxing when you realize you aren't back there

“You're in the medbay, you got hurt.” Steve's reassuring voice soothes from next to Tony.

Thor is holding your shoulders, like he's afraid you'll run.

The adrenaline slowly decreases, allowing you to be reminded of why you're in the medbay in the first place.

Scorching pain radiates from your torso, you lean back onto your pillow, eyes watering from the pain.

“Bruce, up her pain medication” Tony immediately orders, Bruce nods and gets to work.

“What happened?” you ask when thor finally lets go of your shoulders.

“We didn't know there were hidden bombs in the compound. You set one off without realizing.” Bruce explains.

You look down at yourself, you're wearing a hospital gown, iv tubes still stuck in your arms.

“But you okay, you're safe.” Steve soothes, a gentle hand on your arm.

The next few days are full of challenges, you spend the next week recovering in bed, you nearly go insane, but Thor and the others are constantly by your side.

Thor tells you stories of Asgard, Peter sits in your room doing homework so you're not alone, Steve tells you stories of the 40s.

Over time you start slowly recovering, getting stronger and stronger by the day, eventually the team lets you start training again, eventually letting you back on missions.

user-tYYAB62Jw9: I loved your/this story, thank you 😊 . Look forward to more writings. I was so invested in the kids. Curious who or which one is Annie's mate. Maybe Dylan since Collin is a werewolf. Although she'd also make a good Luna. Smiles 🙂
