Chapter 1 girl at the college gate
People say some meetings are planned.
Some are accidents.
And some feel like destiny quietly waiting for the right moment.
Ashish never believed in any of them.At thirty years old, his life revolved around work, responsibilities, and goals. Love had never found a place in his carefully organized world. He had watched friends fall in love, get married, and build families, but he had never felt anything close to what they described.
For him, life was simple.
Work hard. Stay honest. Keep moving forward. That afternoon, he arrived in Sambhajinagar for an important business deal. The work was expected to take a few days, and After checking into his hotel and spending hours in meetings, he felt exhausted.
His old friend, a professor at MGM University's Engineering Department, had invited him to meet on campus.
Most people would have waited inside the café.
Ashish didn't.
Instead, he stood near the college gate beside the old watchman, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere around him. Students walked in groups, laughter echoed through the campus, and the warm evening breeze carried the scent of trees and dusty pathways.
For the first time that day, he felt relaxed.
Then everything changed.
A girl walked through the gate.
At first, she seemed ordinary.
An oversized T-shirt. Loose lowers. A messy hair. No makeup. No attempt to attract attention.Yet something about her made the world around him slow down.
Her dusky face carried a quiet beauty that couldn't be explained. Long strands of wavy hair danced around her cheeks as the wind brushed past her. Her eyes looked thoughtful, as if they were carrying stories nobody knew.
She just has a simple smile.
She wasn't trying to impress anyone.
She wasn't even aware that someone was looking at her.
And somehow, that made her impossible to ignore.
Ashish watched as she walked beside another girl toward the college ground.
For a moment, he forgot where he was.
Forgot the meetings.
Forgot the deal.
Forgot the exhaustion.
The only thing he noticed was her.
A strange feeling settled inside his chest.
Not excitement.
Not attraction.
Something deeper.
Something unfamiliar.
"Hey!"
The sudden voice pulled him back to reality.
His friend walked out of the gate with a bright smile.
"Long time no see!" he laughed. "Why are you standing here? Come to the café."
Ashish shook his head.
"No. Here feels better."
His friend laughed.
"Still the same simple guy."
They started walking slowly around the playground.
"So, how's work?" his friend asked.
"Good," Ashish replied. "The deal isn't finished yet. I'll probably stay for two or three more days."
His friend nodded.
But Ashish wasn't fully listening.
Without realizing it, his eyes searched the crowd.
Searching for someone.
Searching for her.
"What are you looking for?" his friend teased.
Before Ashish could answer, he saw her again.
Standing alone near the edge of the playground.
The evening sun painted golden shades across her face while the wind played with her hair. She looked peaceful and distant at the same time.
For reasons he couldn't understand, he couldn't take his eyes off her. The wind danced freely through her hair, brushing against her face, and for the first time in his life, he felt something absurd—a strange jealousy toward the wind itself for being closer to her than he could ever be.
He had met thousands of people in his life.
Yet one glance from a stranger had shaken something inside him.
Ashish didn't know her name.
He didn't know her story.
He didn't even know if he would ever see her again.
But as the sun slowly disappeared behind the campus buildings, one thought quietly entered his mind.
Maybe this trip to Sambhajinagar was about more than work.
Maybe fate had brought him here for a reason.
