THE POOR BOY

Summary

Harry, often referred to as the Ghost, was the undefeated champion of the Arena—a fierce tournament where the Six Families battle for dominance using masked warriors. After winning his freedom, he disappeared, choosing to live as a beggar to escape his past. But everything changes when his foster father, Harshul Garg, is poisoned. Harry receives a letter along with the family seal, thrusting him back into a dangerous world. Now pursued by the Mashelines—elite assassins—and caught between two feuding brothers, Harry has no choice but to return to the Arena. Alongside his wife Alina and the cunning spymaster Caspian, he uncovers Project Chimera, a conspiracy that ties the families to Harshul's murder. Determined not to be a pawn for the Agarwals or a successor to the Gargs, Harry sets out to reveal the truth to the world. He renounces the throne, melts down the seal, and embraces his new identity as the Poor Boy—a guardian who watches over the wealthy from the shadows, pledging to protect those whom the system neglects.

Introduction:

In this world, a singular, glittering cruelty reigns supreme. At the pinnacle of power are the Six Families: Agarwal, Khandelwal, Maheshwari, Oswal, Garg, and Shrimali. Their leaders, known as the Prabandhaks, wield absolute control, communicating in a polished Hinglish that creates a clear divide between the elite and the everyday folk. Beneath them, 24 Saths oversee the territories, making sure the flow of gold and silver currency remains uninterrupted.

Status isn’t something you inherit; it’s something you battle for in the Arena Battle, a grueling tournament that takes place every six years. In this arena, the families unleash their “Ghosts”—masked champions—against each other. The Gargs have held the record for thirty victories, largely thanks to a legendary figure who mysteriously disappeared years ago.

Harry / “The Ghost”: 25. A man torn in two. His body tells a story of brutal violence—puckered bullet grazes, clean sword scars, and the burn of a bola wrap. Yet, his face carries an unexpected gentleness, marked by an old, faded ballet brand on his shoulder, a remnant of his childhood training in “artistic discipline.” He moves with the fluidity of a predator, but his eyes reveal a profound, weary sadness. His daily act of poverty serves as both penance and a reminder of the self, he never had the chance to become.

Alina Garg: 23. Not your typical damsel. She embodies a dancer’s grace and a duelist’s precision. Her love for Harry is fierce and unwavering, forged through shared trauma. Sharp and observant, she possesses the political savvy of her mother. Alina is Harry’s emotional anchor and strategic ally.

Ardena Agarwal-Garg: 48. A woman straddling two worlds. She’s the daughter of the Agarwal main sub-branch and the wife of Garg Prabandhak, Harshul. Her love marriage stirred up quite the scandal, shaking up alliances in ways no one expected. Regal and fiercely intelligent, she navigates the complex politics of the Families with unmatched skill. Her grief is icy, laser-focused on vengeance and the protection of her loved ones.

Caspian: 60s. The butler with the keen eyes of a spymaster. He’s more of a general than just a servant. His loyalty to Harshul was unwavering, but now it’s shifted to Harry. He’s the guardian of secrets, the trainer of warriors, and the family’s chief strategist. His own family—his wife and son, Milan—are just as capable in their roles.

Harsh & Harshit Garg: Twin brothers in their 40s, mourning their late brother Harshul. **Harsh** is bold and aggressive, ruling the Mashelines with an iron fist and a touch of fear. **Harshit**, on the other hand, is crafty and strategic, managing the family’s finances with a keen eye. Their rivalry is a toxic tango for the vacant throne.

Robert: The manager of the laundry shop, he’s a “Sath” (the head of a 24-family sub-branch) of the Agarwal family, operating under the radar. His coin serves as a communicator. He’s also a talent scout for the ruthless games, a smooth talker who views Harry’s scars not as injuries, but as a badge of experience.

The Mashelines (Key Members Highlighted):

• The Axe Ronin: Harsh’s tough enforcer.

• The Chain Phantom: A skilled expert in traps and interrogation, fiercely loyal to Harshit.

• Void Assassin: The family’s stealthy killer, with an uncertain allegiance.

• Silent Reaper: A tactical mastermind, rumored to have held respect for Harry.
