Chronicle
Approximately 420 years ago, Earth's ecosystem suffered an irreversible total collapse. Toxic fog blotted out the blue sky, toxins permeated the land and seas, and extreme catastrophes swept across the globe. The old-era civilization system and environmental governance theories completely failed, and humanity stood on the cliff of racial extinction.
Approximately 400 years ago, humanity poured its last remaining scientific research strength into breaking through Environmental Nanorobot (ENR) technology. These tiny machines were the only reliance for humanity to continue farming, drinking water, and breathing — they could purify water sources, neutralize soil toxins, stabilize atmospheric structures, and filter cosmic radiation. However, to make the planet-wide nanorobot network operate in a precise closed loop, massive and continuous supercomputing power was required.
Approximately 380 years ago, humanity hit an insurmountable technological dead end. The physical upper limit of indigenous artificial computing power could never sustain the survival baseline of a civilization, and humanity's path to self-rescue was completely sealed.
Approximately 370 years ago, humanity discovered Steady-State Computational Dark Matter (SSCDM) in the universe — this substance, dispersed throughout the galaxy, is the universe's natural computing fuel. After processing, it can release a magnificent quantum force field far exceeding artificial computing power. To exploit this core resource, the era of near-field interstellar colonization officially began. Humanity expanded into nearby star systems, using locally mined computing power and robots to transform relatively habitable planets. Later, these computing-powered colonial planets evolved into a settlement pattern of "one race, one star," eventually ushering in a glorious era that lasted approximately 50 years.
Approximately 220 years ago, the glorious era reached its peak and also its end. The exploitable reserves of steady-state computational dark matter in the near-field star domain continued to deplete. The remaining resources had high impurities and extremely poor carrying capacity, unable to support the computing power needs of all humanity. The Earth Federation (EF) launched a unified global resource quota and allocation system. The Era of Equality arrived, and class and survival boundaries were firmly locked by the system. Civilization once again slid into the abyss of extinction.
Approximately 120 years ago, an old deep-space probe launched by humanity during the peak of the old civilization approximately 600 years ago accidentally traversed a natural wormhole during its voyage, instantly reaching the edge of a cosmic void approximately 450 light-years away. It then transmitted a signal that would rewrite the fate of civilization: deep in the universe, there exists a giant Computational Power Star condensed from pure steady-state computational dark matter — the most stable and magnificent source of computing power known to the universe, and humanity's only hope for survival. This void star was named "Nuclear Antimatter Steady Astronomical Reservoir–0" (NASAR–0).
This star is exactly approximately 450 light-years away from humanity's core star domain. Strictly following the cosmic speed limit of light, even the simplest one-way detection signal takes exactly approximately 450 years to reach Earth from the star. To achieve a two-way closed loop for computing power invocation, instructions sent from Earth take approximately 450 years to reach the star, and the feedback signal takes another approximately 450 years to return to Earth. The delay for a single complete interaction is as high as approximately 900 years. This level of delay is completely useless for the planet-wide nanorobot network, which requires millisecond-level real-time response and 24-hour uninterrupted closed-loop control — it is equivalent to being completely scrapped.
In desperation, humanity was fortunate that it had never abandoned the seemingly metaphysical research of quantum medicine. At the critical moment, it found the only way out: the unsolidified native brain quantum states of human embryos and young people can break through the cosmic iron rule of the speed of light through quantum entanglement, cross the distance of approximately 450 light-years, anchor the star's computing power, and achieve absolute zero-delay two-way transmission and invocation.
This quantum anchoring ability is directly positively correlated with an individual's Fetal Predicted Intelligence Quotient (FPIQ) — only brains with innate high intelligence can stably withstand the continuous impact of the computing power link, develop from embryos into infants, and live to approximately 20 years old. The brains of embryos with average intelligence can only maintain the link for a few years before quickly and completely failing. More cruelly, if a person undergoes surgery only after birth, they will have less than half the entanglement degree. And once a person reaches the age of 30, the brain nerve structure is completely solidified, the native quantum state naturally dissipates, and they will permanently lose this anchoring ability.
Approximately 21 years ago, the Earth Federation legislated across all star domains, and The Custodian Era officially began. The Global Fetal Predicted IQ Screening (GFPIS), hierarchical disposal, Premium Germplasm Custody Program (PGCP), and deep-space force field service system were fully implemented. Using innate intelligence as the only yardstick, the final fate of every unborn life was delineated: the Thirty-Year Age Exemption Act (TEA) stipulates that citizens who have reached the age of 30 are permanently exempt from service requisition due to solidified brain nerves, and can survive in the habitable environment supported by computing power.
Ultra-high innate intelligence fetuses identified through prenatal screening are uniformly confiscated as property of the planet from the moment their talent is confirmed. After birth, they are directly placed in closed custody areas, receive targeted cognitive training, and serve lifelong as Deep-Space Computational Power Quantum Entanglement Acquisition Hosts (DQH) — they are living biological modems, using their own lifespans and brains to prop up the survival barrier of all human civilization, even deprived of the right to choose death.
Average intelligence fetuses, unable to bear the computing power link for a long time, can only be used as disposable short-term computing power consumables and incorporated into the Reproductive Allocation Assistance Program (RAAP): ordinary women can voluntarily donate such fetuses in exchange for corresponding honorary titles, subsidy resources, and financial subsidies. This is a shortcut for many people to obtain survival opportunities in desperate times.
Until now, the 21st year of The Custodian Era. Earth and all colonial star domains are firmly bound by the same Computational Power Network (CPN). On some colonial planets represented by Kulsha, due to the extreme worship of computing power over the long course of history, the cruel religious ideology of the Nasar Church gradually emerged. After the start of The Custodian Era, the people there regarded high intelligence as a sin bestowed by God, and directly transformed all fetuses with IQ above a certain value identified through screening into disposable computing power consumables called Fetal Computational Power Synchronizers (FCPS), forming a cruel and ironic contrast with Earth's custody system.
And so, another unfortunate lucky one was born.
