Chapter 1: The Sanctuary of Clean
The scent of bleach was Elena’s ultimate comfort. To her, a clean house wasn’t just a matter of hygiene; it was a sanctuary. It was absolute control.
She stood at the threshold of the living room, tying her hair back into a tight, efficient bun before slipping on her thick yellow rubber gloves. She took a deep breath, inhaling the sharp, stinging aroma of chemicals that always managed to quiet the chaotic noise in her head. Looking into the room, she sighed. It was an absolute disaster. Total chaos.
Yet, as she looked at the mess, a faint, pleasant hum of anticipation warmed her chest. Elena had always loved a challenge.
She started with the walls. There were dark, violent splatters sprayed across the cream-colored wallpaper, ruining the pristine aesthetic she worked so hard to maintain.
"How do they always manage to make such a mess?" she murmured affectionately to the empty room, her voice a gentle coo. They were always so careless, leaving their marks everywhere, never understanding the effort it took to keep a home perfect.
She soaked a heavy sponge into a bucket of warm water, Pine-Sol, and a generous pour of raw bleach. Kneeling by the baseboards, she went to work. With firm, rhythmic, circular motions, she scrubbed. The dark stains resisted at first, smearing into a bruised, rust-colored purple under her pressure, before finally wiping away to reveal the clean plaster beneath.
Elena smiled, watching the grime vanish. Step by step. Piece by piece. Order was being restored.
