The morning sun, a persistent and unwelcome guest, had managed to pierce the curtains, its bright rays acting as an immediate irritant across the skin of Kamado Y/N. It was only seven, far too early for the amount of disruption her younger sister was about to inflict, yet a sigh of weary resignation was already forming in the back of Y/N's throat. She was a transfer student now, forced into a new environment—Kimetsu Senior High Academy—following an incident that she desperately wished to leave in the past, a past which now seemed determined to follow her wherever she went.
A sudden, violent slam of the door shattered the early morning quiet, the sound a physical jolt that confirmed her worst fears. It was, of course, Nezuko, her younger sister, all boisterous energy and utter lack of spatial awareness. 'Ugh, why is she so loud?... It's only 7 in the morning... too early for her bullshit,' the thought flashed through Y/N's mind, a silent, grumpy monologue against her sister's enthusiastic noise pollution.
"WAKEY WAKEY LAZY HEAD," Nezuko bellowed, the volume unnecessary and grating. Y/N's first, and most honest, instinct was to burrow deeper into the warmth of the bed and the fleeting oblivion of sleep. "No, now let me sleep," she mumbled into her pillow, a futile protest against the inevitable.
Nezuko, predictably, disregarded the plea entirely. With a swift, harsh tug, the blanket was ripped from Y/N's grasp, leaving her exposed to the still-cool morning air. Adding insult to injury, the window was then flung wide open, letting in a draft of crisp spring air—a season of deceptive beauty, cold in the early hours before its warmth took over.
"AHH, YOU DUMBASS IT'S COLD OUTSIDE," Y/N exclaimed, pulling her limbs in instinctively. Her sister remained unperturbed, a single-minded force of nature when a goal—punctuality—was in mind. "I DON'T CARE AND HURRY UP, WE DON'T WANT TO BE LATE BECAUSE OF YOU." With that final, dismissive injunction, Nezuko left the room, leaving Y/N to manage the cold and her own rising irritation alone.
Sighing deeply, Y/N dragged herself out of bed, her first action to close the now-gaping window and reclaim a sliver of warmth. The day had started with an unnecessary battle, and it hadn't even truly begun. She quickly got dressed, her mind already running over the logistics of the new school, the anxieties of a new start already coiling in her stomach.
Downstairs, she exchanged simple greetings with her siblings and sat down at the table. Breakfast was unceremonious—just cereal with milk—but the casual chatter that flowed between the three of them about "random shit" was a small, comforting anchor. It was a normal, sibling moment, one she clung to, knowing the rest of the day would be far from it.
Bags in hand, they left the house. The walk to Kimetsu Senior High Academy was a blur of nervous energy for Y/N. She was acutely aware of her status as an outsider, a transfer with a shadowed past. Her only real connections were her twin, Tanjiro, and Nezuko, and through them, a handful of friends she barely knew.
They arrived at the school earlier than expected. "Well, sayonara, let's meet at lunch," Y/N said, a brief parting to her siblings as she made a beeline for her assigned classroom. She knocked tentatively, her heart giving a small, nervous lurch. The teacher, a woman with a kind, welcoming smile, opened the door.
"You must be the new student, right?" the teacher asked, her voice soft. "Yup, that's me," Y/N confirmed, a small, forced smile in place. The teacher instructed her to wait, then stepped back inside the classroom. Y/N could hear the muffled voice introducing her, a wave of anticipation and curiosity washing over the students inside.
"Ok, students, we have a new student here who is the one I was talking about yesterday. You may come in." Taking a steadying breath, Y/N stepped into the room, maintaining the slight, hopeful smile. She walked to the front, addressing the rows of unfamiliar faces. "Hello, my name is Kamado Y/N. Hope we may get along."
"Ok then, Y/N, sit beside umm... Muichiro, since the seat is empty next to him. Muichiro, please raise your hand," the teacher directed. Y/N agreed, scanning the room for the raised hand. She spotted a male student who appeared to be zoned out. As she reached his desk, he turned and gave her a brief, but genuine, smile, a small spark of warmth in the new, intimidating room.
The first class began, and Y/N forced herself to concentrate on the teacher, her smile fading as she settled into the routine. One hour and thirty minutes later, the bell shrieked, signaling the end of the class. 'Finally, it's over... I already started to hate this school because it's so boring,' she thought, feeling a familiar restlessness.
Just as students began to file out for lunch, the two girls seated in front of her swiveled around, a clear intention to speak evident in their bright, eager expressions. The taller girl was striking, with pink hair fading to green at the tips and matching green eyes. The shorter one was delicate, with black hair tied up by a distinctive butterfly clip and soft purple eyes.
"HEYYY, I AM KANROJI MITSURI, NICE TO MEET YOU," the tall female boomed, her enthusiasm almost overwhelming. "Mitsuri-chan, please don't yell," the shorter girl gently chided, though a small smile played on her lips. "Oh... um... sorry... hehe," Mitsuri apologized, a sheepish blush rising on her cheeks.
The shorter girl introduced herself next, her demeanor much calmer. "I am Kocho Shinobu. Nice to meet you." Y/N felt a genuine surge of relief; perhaps she wouldn't be an absolute pariah. "Oh, umm, hi. Nice to meet you guys too, by the way, I am Kamado Y/n."
"Huh? I never knew that the Kamado siblings had a sister," Mitsuri said, her head tilted in surprise. "Same," Shinobu echoed. "Oh, so you know my twin and sister," Y/N clarified, a faint smile on her face. "Oh, so you are Tanjiro's twin and Nezuko's sister, and yes, we know them as we are their friends," they confirmed, which was a pleasant surprise.
"Oh, so cool," Y/N replied, feeling a bridge forming already. They all shared a brief laugh, and it was in that moment that Y/N noticed Muichiro leaving with a group of friends. He glanced back, catching her eye, and offered another effortless smile, which she returned. The girls, preoccupied, missed the exchange.
"Hey, Y/N, would you like to have lunch with Shinobu-Chan and me?" Mitsuri asked, her expression hopeful. "Oh, umm, yeah, sure, why not?" Y/N agreed immediately. "Ok then, follow us," Shinobu instructed. Y/N readily accepted, already feeling a hopeful anticipation: perhaps she wouldn't be alone this semester after all.
The three of them collected their money and walked toward the bustling cafeteria. This small invitation was a massive comfort; it felt like she had already made friends on her very first day. The cafeteria was a noisy hub, and after buying their lunches, they found an empty table, with Mitsuri and Shinobu sitting opposite Y/N.
Mid-meal, a familiar, high-pitched voice called her name, and Y/N turned to see Nezuko approaching, followed by Tanjiro and a small group of their friends, all of them smiling. "Heyyyy, Y/N Nee-san, my favorite sister~," Nezuko sang, a pitch reserved only for when she needed something.
"What do you want?" Y/N asked bluntly, her intuition honed by years of sibling manipulation. Nezuko feigned indignation. "Heh? What do you mean? Can't I say hey to my favorite sister?" Y/N just sighed and offered a devastatingly logical breakdown. "First, you call me nee-san only when you need something. In addition, you only have one sister, who is me. So it is obvious that you need something."
The argument settled, Nezuko dropped the act. "Hehehe... ok... You are right, I was wondering if you could give me money for lunch." With a sigh of theatrical exasperation, Y/N relented. "Fine, here, take it." Nezuko pocketed the money, but didn't leave, standing there with a bewildered expression.
"Hmm, what happened?" Y/N prompted. "Wait, I forgot something... hmm... oh... OH YEAH," Nezuko suddenly yelled, startling her sister. "Can you not scream, you dumbass?" Y/N muttered, rubbing her ear. "Tanjiro and I were going to introduce our other friends."
As the introductions went around, Y/N made eye contact with Muichiro again. A sudden, internal flurry of confusion and warmth erupted in her chest. 'Why does Muichiro look so cute... HUH DON'T THINK LIKE THAT Y/N. What are these feelings?' she silently panicked, her attention momentarily diverted. "It's nice to meet you all," she said, managing to maintain her composure.
Nezuko concluded, "I see you already met Mitsuri-Chan and Shinobu-Chan, great. Oh, by the way." Y/N braced herself. "What?" "We are having a party at Mitsuri-Chan's house." "Okay," Y/N replied simply, her mind already on the boy who had smiled at her. They left soon after, and the lunch period concluded with the ringing of the bell.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Muichiro was being aggressively encouraged by his friends. "Come on, Muichiro, ask her out," his beloved sister's voice urged, though this was only in a conversational block outside the main narrative. "What if she says no?" Muichiro worried. "JUST HAVE THE CONFIDENCE AND GO," Kyojuro encouraged him, pushing him towards a decision.
Back in the classroom, Y/N felt a gentle tap on her shoulder and turned to find Muichiro standing there. "Oh, hey, Muichiro-Kun, do you need me?" she asked, her heartbeat picking up pace despite herself. "Umm... yeah... I do, can we talk... in private?" he asked, a noticeable hesitation in his voice. "Okay," she agreed, curiosity overcoming nervousness.
They stepped out into the quiet hallway. "So, would you like to come to my house to watch a movie?" Muichiro finally asked the question slightly less romantic than a formal date, but intimate nonetheless. "Yeah, of course," Y/N accepted immediately, genuinely pleased by the invitation.
"Oh, great, so we could leave school together and go to my house. Then you could go to your house to prepare for the sleepover party," Muichiro finalized, structuring their immediate future. "Okay then," Y/N agreed, her day having taken an unexpectedly positive turn.
