Prologue: The Nerd's Diary
Dear Diary,
I am an outcast once again.
At least in Oakwood, some of the other nerds spoke to me from time to time. Here in Everwood, I’m invisible.
We only have a few months left of senior year, though, and I don’t expect much change in the way of my social life.
The only strange thing to happen to me this year is something I can’t stop thinking about. I had this gut feeling on my first day at school. Then, I saw her.
She was so beautiful… I could have drooled on the spot. She looked at me, saw me, and she took a step toward me… but then she didn’t. Ever again.
That’s the last time she looked at me. I’m probably delusional, but it’s like any time she walks into a room that I’m in, once she realizes, she turns around and can’t get away fast enough.
Then there’s the little—not-little-at-all thing that happened after school last Friday. She scratched me.
I’m pretty sure the wound is infected. I don’t actually feel sick, but I’m hot all the time, and sometimes I swear it feels like my skin is being pricked by a million needles at once. I explained that to the local nurse, and she recommended I stay away from drugs. Then, she made me give her a urine sample in case it was somehow an STD causing the symptoms.
Um, yeah... so I’m back to diary entries to keep track of time since I’m pretty sure I’ve started blacking out.
Salud?
