Le vent soufflait doucement et les vagues venaient s’écraser contre le sable. Je ne savais pas encore que ce jour allait changer ma vie. Puis je t’ai vu. Tu t’es approché de moi avec ton sourire et, sans même le savoir, tu venais de devenir la personne à laquelle j’allais penser chaque matin. On a passé des heures à parler. Puis des jours. Puis des mois. Tu m’avais promis que tu ne me ferais jamais de mal. Et moi, je t’ai cru. Jusqu’au jour où j’ai découvert la vérité. Ce jour-là, quelque chose s’est brisé en moi. Good short story
"I really enjoyed the pace of this story. It was mostly realistic, but It was tough to wrap my head around that a 13-year-old boy would be so intuitive and a friend to his mom. My 13-year-old daughter is super smart and says I am her best friend so I guess it is possible. I struggled because boys usually don't mature so quickly. That was my only complaint and it's a minor one, everything else in this book was wonderful. I look forward to reading another book by this author."

Matt and Shaylynn had both been betrayed by family and by the people they believed loved them, but I loved how they didn't allow those experiences to define who they were. Watching them rebuild their lives, learn to trust again, and find love with each other made their journey feel so meaningful.
