Short Story
I stood in my tattered striped pajamas.Looking at her beauty through the holes in the fence. I waved and smiled. She looked at me in my soul. Her arms by her side. But when I waved. her wrist went up and a little shake took place. I had fallen in love through the fence. My smile was touching one ear to the other. The guard came over and hit me in the back of the head with the gun. Work! Is all the guard said to me.
I saw her flinch on the other side of the fence. I said to myself. It will be ok, don't worry about me. The next day I saw her in line. She saw my bruises from the day before. As I was in a line of all boys. She was in a line of all girls. The fence separated us. I started air drumming on the person In Front of me. I laughed and started dancing in place. She giggled and put her 3 fingers over her mouth to silence it. The guard saw me and took the back of his gun and jammed it in my back. I fell to the floor. She flinched again. They shoved me into the gravel. I smiled at her and winked.
She noticed, no one else did. I saw her heart through her flinch, She cared. That's all I needed to know. A tear rolled down my cheek as I got back up. It was a euphoric tear. The German soldier looked and laughed out to his guard buddies! I broke him, he looks like a baby crying. But in reality it was because I felt her love through the holes in the fence, past her gown and under her skin from a mile away. Did I know if I was gonna see her again? I couldn't tell you. But my heart chimes as I go back to my work site. Just a Jewish boy in love in an unfortunate place
