Chapter 1: The Bad Boy Is Just Too Obsessed With Me!

There are certain people everyone talks about long before you ever meet them. Sometimes they are admired, sometimes feared, and sometimes they become so surrounded by rumors that nobody remembers who they really are. Aiden Blackwood was one of those people.

I knew his name before I knew his face.

The stories about him traveled through the halls of Westbridge Academy almost every day. Some students claimed he had been suspended several times. Others swore they had seen him fighting after school. A few girls insisted he was secretly kind, though nobody seemed able to explain why they thought so. Whatever the truth was, one thing remained certain: people noticed Aiden Blackwood the moment he entered a room.

I never expected him to notice me.

The first day of the semester began with rain tapping softly against the classroom windows. The weather made everything feel sleepy and gray, and most students spent the morning chatting excitedly about their holidays. I sat quietly near the window, sketching absentmindedly in the corner of my notebook while waiting for class to begin. Drawing had always been my escape. Whenever the world became too loud, I could lose myself in pencil strokes and unfinished ideas.

The classroom door opened, and the noise immediately faded.

I looked up.

A tall boy stepped inside with an expression that suggested he would rather be anywhere else. His dark hair was slightly messy, his tie hung loose around his neck, and his hands were buried in the pockets of his jacket. He didn't look around nervously like most students did. Instead, he walked in as if the room already belonged to him.

Aiden Blackwood.

Even from where I sat, I could feel the shift in the atmosphere. Conversations stopped. A few students exchanged looks. Some stared openly while pretending not to.

For a brief moment, his eyes swept across the room.

Then they landed on me.

It was probably only a second.

Maybe less.

But something about the intensity of his gaze made me quickly look back down at my notebook. I told myself I was imagining things. People looked at each other all the time. There was no reason to think it meant anything.

Unfortunately, the universe seemed determined to prove me wrong.

A few minutes later, our teacher announced that seating arrangements would be changing for the semester. The collective groan that followed could probably be heard throughout the entire building. One by one, names were called and students shuffled across the room.

When my name was announced, I stood and waited.

"Emma Carter," the teacher said, checking her list. "You'll be sitting beside Aiden Blackwood."

The room erupted with whispers.

I felt every pair of eyes turn toward me.

For a second, I genuinely considered pretending I hadn't heard her. Instead, I gathered my books and walked toward the empty seat beside him.

Aiden watched me sit down but didn't say anything.

The lesson began.

I tried focusing on the board, but I could feel his presence beside me. It wasn't that he was doing anything strange. In fact, he seemed completely uninterested in the class. Yet somehow I remained painfully aware of him.

About twenty minutes into the lesson, I heard his voice.

"You draw a lot."

The unexpected comment nearly made me drop my pencil.

I glanced down and realized part of my sketchbook was visible beneath my textbook.

"Sometimes," I replied.

His eyes lingered on the page for a moment.

The drawing wasn't anything special. Just a forest beneath a moonlit sky.

"You pay attention to details," he said.

I frowned slightly. "What does that mean?"

He pointed toward the sketch.

"Most people would draw the trees. You drew the shadows between them."

His answer surprised me.

Nobody had ever said something like that before. Most people looked at my drawings for a few seconds and moved on. Aiden, however, seemed to notice things I didn't expect anyone to notice.

For the rest of the lesson, I couldn't stop thinking about it.

When lunch finally arrived, I left the classroom as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, in my hurry, I forgot several books on my desk.

I didn't realize my mistake until I reached the cafeteria.

Muttering to myself, I turned around and prepared to walk back.

Then I heard someone call my name.

I froze.

The voice sounded familiar.

Turning around, I found Aiden standing a few feet away, holding my books.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

The cafeteria suddenly felt much quieter than before.

"You left these," he said.

"Oh."

Brilliant response, Emma.

I accepted the books and managed a small thank you.

He nodded and walked away as though returning forgotten books was the most normal thing in the world.

Apparently, everyone else disagreed.

By the time I reached my table, my best friend Lily was staring at me with wide eyes.

"Please tell me what that was."

I sighed.

"He was just returning my books."

"Exactly."

I blinked.

"Exactly what?"

Lily looked genuinely concerned.

"Emma, the boy barely talks to anyone. He doesn't carry people's books. He doesn't even help teachers when they ask him to."

I rolled my eyes, though a small part of me understood her confusion.

Because she was right.

The whole situation felt unusual.

As the day continued, I noticed something else.

Every time I looked up, Aiden seemed to be looking in my direction.

Not constantly.

Not enough to seem obvious.

Just enough to make me wonder if it was intentional.

And every time our eyes met, he would look away first.

It should have made me feel relieved.

Instead, it made me curious.

That night, while lying in bed, I found myself thinking about him again. Not because he was the mysterious bad boy everyone talked about. Not because of the rumors.

I kept thinking about the way he had noticed the shadows in my drawing.

It was such a small thing.

Yet somehow it felt important.

At the time, I had no idea that this simple day would change everything.

I didn't know that Aiden Blackwood was about to become a permanent part of my life.

And I certainly didn't know that before long, everyone at Westbridge Academy would be saying the same thing:

"The bad boy is completely obsessed with her."
