Chapter 1: Omniscent
"Good girl" Nancy heard, the words whispered in her ear.
Her eyes shot open looking around, expecting her boss, a coworker -any man- behind her. There was no one there, however. I must be going crazy she thought. She took out her ear bud - the smooth tones of Teddy Swims fading away and shook off the bad feelings she had. Nancy went back to work, daydreaming about what she had just done.
5pm came and Nancy walked to her car, the day's events nothing but a faded memory. The last hour whizzed by, when a few priorities were dropped on her desk and needed to be done before she went home for the weekend.
Waiting for the air to kick on in the car, Nancy closed her eyes and leaned her head back onto the headrest. It had been a long, difficult week. A second later, Nancy heard a deep voice "been a long day, baby girl?"
Nancy's eyes shot open, an anxious fire filling her chest. She looked around, confused. Scared. What the hell was happening?! "Don't bother trying to find me. You won't" the voice laughed. Nancy looked down at the phone in her hand, now obvious where the words were coming from. She inspected her phone. Did she butt dial someone? No. There was no call connected, no apps running. Panic was setting in.
"Naaaancy. Baby girl, you know you won't find me. I'm basically your conscience, just do what I tell you, when I tell you, and I promise we will both have a good time."
"Ca.... can you hear me? Who are you? How????" Too many questions came to Nancy all at once, not sure which to ask first.
The voice laughed again, this time a low, sexy, rumble "Yes. I can hear you. That's all the information you need for now."
"Fuuuck this!" Nancy exclaimed, turning on her phone, ready to dial 9-1-1.
"You don't wanna do that." The voice said, in a low growl. "Why don't you just drive home. On our way back to your place, we can get to know each other."
"Why should I go along with this? You know it's kidnapping, right? This is insane." Nancy asked, more to herself than anything.
"And yet... you're still thinking about it, aren't you? Like I said, I'm your conscience. I know what you want.. what you need. Trust me, baby girl." The voice's emphasis on the last word made Nancy's heart race.
Nancy sat still, all of the thoughts racing through her head at once. Fucking ADHD I can't think! "Okay." She said, before she realized what word fell out of her mouth.
"Good girl. I'm not asking much of you, yet. All I want is for you to drive home - be careful there is an accident on second -"
"how the FUCK do you know the route I take home?" Nancy interjected.
The voice sighed "Nancy. You need to listen to me. I won't put you in danger, just take a detour home. Once you're there, you will make your supper - and for the love of god. Not a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Again. You need real fucking food..... and don't roll your eyes at me."
