### **Chapter 1: Big City, Lost Minds**
*Raven looks out the window, admiring Chicago's night view*
*Sigh.*
Here I am… Chicago. I wonder what's so unique about this city...
*Her phone starts buzzing*
“Omg! YOU’RE GOING TO CHICAGO?! LUCKY!!”
*—bag drops—*
“Fuck…”
I was fine with Damian and Hancel… so why did everything fall apart already?
I finally found a real family… and now they’re sending me to some *educational boarding school*?
So I can become a *good girl*?
*Crash!*
“AHH!”
*She paces for a second, then drops onto the bed, rubbing her face.*
“Okay… calm down, Raven. You’re fine. Totally fine. Not losing it at all.”
*Knock, knock.*
“Yeah, come in.”
“Hii—uh… what’s going on?” Hancel steps in, looking around at the broken glass. “I heard screaming and something breaking. Thought you were summoning a demon. Is everything okay?
Raven chuckles “Not really… I just don’t feel comfortable in the city. I prefer the countryside.”
Hancel shrugs lightly. “That’s normal. Every time we move, we hate it first… then we get used to it.”
Raven’s head snaps up. “But I *don’t* want to get used to it! I was happy there—I was finally happy!”
Her voice cracks as tears start falling.
“Raven… are you crying?” Hancel moves closer, softer now. “Hey… don’t cry. I’m here, okay? I won’t leave you.”
She gently holds her shoulders.
“We’ll call every night. I’ll stay on the phone until you fall asleep. We’ll text every day.”
A small pause.
“And if you hate it that much… I’ll convince Mom to bring you back to Mississippi. I swear.”
Raven wipes her tears, a small smile forming. “You promise?”
“I promise.”
They hug.
“You got so big,” Hancel laughs softly. “I can barely hug you now.”
*A loud honk cuts through the moment.*
Raven pulls away, grabbing her bag. “Well… guess that’s my cue.”
She stops at the door and turns back, eyes glossy.
“Im not ready for this… I don’t wanna leave you.”
She forces a smile. “Just… remember I love you, okay?”
Hancel nods warmly. “We already know. And we’re not forgetting it anytime soon.”
She opens her arms. “One last hug?”
“Mmm.”
Raven launches herself at her—
—and they both crash to the floor.
“RAVEN—” Hancel bursts out laughing. “I love you, but you need to GO. And wow, you’re heavy!”
Raven laughs, getting up. “I’m trying to escape, okay?! Just one last goodbye and I’m gone, I swear.”
Hancel looks at her with that soft, warm expression again.
Suddenly— Raven runs upstairs screaming:
“MOM!! MOM!!”
Her mom turns, startled, just in time for Raven to jump into her arms.
No words. Just a tight hug.
---
Ten minutes later, Raven is in the car.
James, the driver, glances at her through the mirror. “Finally. I thought you’d never come.”
“Yeah… I wish,” Raven mutters.
“I’m not gonna lie,” he grins, “this school will be a blessing. It will be a real pleasure for yor loved ones to not hear you throw tantrums worthy of the greatest, most respectable demons.
Raven rolls her eyes. “You better be the driver and shut up before I punch your fucking face.”
James laughs. “Alright, alright. Relax.”
Raven turns to the window.
*Wow… Chicago is huge.*
*Maybe I won’t miss the countryside that much.*
*And the weather… I haven’t seen sun this bright since, what, 1867?*
“We’re here!” James announces. “International Wiston Boarding School. Ready for your new life?”
Raven steps out, gripping her bag.
“…Yeah. Kinda.”
She turns slightly. “I’ll call when I get there. Bye.”
“Have fun,” James smirks. “And try not to destroy the place on day one.”
Raven smiles. “I’ll try.”
*In her head—*
*Chicago… get ready.*
*Cause the storm is about to come!*
