Nora came from a family that often felt divided between expectations and reality. She was the youngest among her siblings, with two brothers and an elder sister who was the most responsible and respected among them. Her father was a simple man, not highly educated, and worked hard in a small job to support the household.
In comparison, the rest of their extended family was well-educated and financially stable. Her paternal uncle was a lawyer, and most relatives carried themselves with status and pride. Because of this difference, Nora’s family was often seen as less important within the larger family circle, something that quietly affected the way Nora grew up observing the world.
Despite all this, Nora had dreams of her own. She was currently studying in college, trying to build a future that felt bigger than her present circumstances. She did not believe easily in love or emotional attachments. To her, love was something uncertain, something she kept at a distance from her heart.
Life, however, had a strange way of bringing back what was once left behind.
It happened during a family function.
Nora attended the gathering with her family, expecting it to be just another ordinary day among relatives she had grown used to seeing occasionally. But that day was different.
There, she saw someone she had once known in childhood.
A boy she had met years ago.
Back then, she had disliked him. Not just disliked—she had carried a deep resentment toward him because of one incident she could never forget. A moment from childhood where, because of him, her father had once raised a hand on her and slapped her. That memory had stayed with her, leaving behind a silent bitterness.
But time had changed everything.
The boy she once remembered was no longer the same. He was taller now, more confident, and carried himself with a calm presence. He appeared kind, attentive, and respectful toward everyone around him. The change in him was undeniable, and despite herself, Nora found her attention drawn toward him.
Something unfamiliar began to stir inside her. She tried to ignore it, but his presence lingered in her thoughts longer than she expected.
Days passed, yet she could not stop thinking about him. The more she remembered his behavior at the function, the more her perception began to shift. Slowly, the distance she had once felt started turning into curiosity… and then something deeper she could not name.
And then, one day, something unexpected happened.
A notification appeared on her phone.
An Instagram request.
When she opened it, her heart paused for a moment.
It was him.
The same boy from the family function.
Nora stared at the screen longer than she intended to, her emotions shifting in ways she could not understand. A quiet excitement filled her chest, followed by thoughts she had never allowed herself to feel before.
And for the first time in a long while, Nora felt something she had long kept buried…
Hope.
