Chapter 1
## Chapter One: The Blood Compass
### Lilitha
The iron was a slow, toxic venom inside my veins.
Every time the heavy wooden carriage jolted against the frozen ruts of the northern trail, the heavy, rune-carved shackles bit deeper into my raw wrists. It wasn’t just physical pain; it was a suffocating, terrifying emptiness. The ancient iron acted like a lead shroud, violently severing the golden threads of my pack link.
Where there had once been the roaring, protective presence of Dorek, the sharp, calculating intellect of Jaxon, and the fierce, unyielding warmth of Klaus, there was now only a deafening, echoing silence.
I was entirely blind. Completely alone.
"Keep moving!" a rogue warrior yelled from outside, his voice cutting through the howling northern wind. "The Alphas will be tracking the main roads! We cut through the crags before sundown!"
I pressed my trembling back against the cold wooden wall of the carriage, my hands instinctively dropping to my flat stomach. *They don’t know,* I whispered silently into the void of my own mind, praying the tiny, fragile spark of life growing inside me could somehow hear me. *They think they’ve caught a prize, but they don't know who you are. Hold on, my little Alpha. Your fathers are coming.*
Through the small, barred window of the carriage, I watched the jagged, snow-capped peaks of the North close in around us like teeth. Vance’s army was retreating fast, slipping into the shadows of the uncharted wilderness like cowards. They thought they had snuffed out the light of the Triad. They thought the iron had made me powerless.
But as I felt the heavy thrum of my own heartbeat against the cold metal of my bonds, a fierce, golden warmth flickered deep within my soul. I had left them a trail. I had left them my blood.
They would come. And when they did, the North would burn.
### Jaxon
The armory smelled of black steel, leather, and the suffocating, volatile stench of alpha rage.
Klaus was a blur of destructive motion, violently tossing heavy armor plating into the saddlebags of his warhorse. His amber eyes were completely bloodshot, his fangs fully extended as guttural, animalistic snarls ripped from his throat with every breath. Across the courtyard, Dorek stood like an imposing statue of pure slaughter, his massive hands gripping the hilt of his greatsword so tightly the leather wrapping groaned under the pressure. His alpha aura was a crushing weight, so heavy that the low-ranking sentries couldn't even look him in the eye without trembling.
"We are wasting time!" Klaus roared, his voice shaking the rafters of the stone stables as he slammed a leather strap into place. "Every second we stand here breathing this stale air, that bastard has his hands on our mate! I will tear his throat out! I will tear the entire North apart piece by piece!"
"Klaus, shut up and listen," I said, my voice cutting through the chaos with a cold, clinical precision that forced both of them to freeze.
I stepped into the center of the courtyard, my long fingers holding up the hollow silver cage pendant. The sapphire was gone, the mechanism clicked open to reveal the small, hidden chamber inside.
"The pack link is dead, Jaxon!" Dorek growled, his deep voice vibrating in my chest like distant thunder as he turned his dark, lethal gaze toward me. "Vance used ancient iron. We are blind. We can’t track her scent through the nevasca, and we can’t hear her thoughts. If you have a strategy, speak it now before I ride north alone."
"We are blind through ordinary means, yes," I replied calmly, though a gelid, lethal clarity was hardening in my own chest. I tilted the pendant, letting the dim torchlight illuminate the dark, encrusted patch of material hidden inside. "But Vance underestimated her. Lilitha didn't just leave us a map of the ice tunnels. She left us her blood."
Klaus stepped closer, his chest arfing as his inner wolf caught the faint, sweet, magnetic scent of our mate embedded in the silver. "Her blood..."
"The pure blood of an Omega," I explained, my eyes narrowing with dangerous intelligence. "The divine signature of Selena’s lineage. Vance thinks the iron shackles are foolproof, but a blood connection cannot be suppressed by metal. To an ordinary tracker, this is a dead stain. But to a blood witch, this is an infallible compass. It is a vital beacon that can rip through any cloaking spell Vance tries to throw at us."
Dorek’s eyes flared with sudden, brutal comprehension. "We need a witch."
"Precisely," I said, snapping the silver pendant shut and securing it safely against my chest. "And there is only one place close enough that holds the kind of power we need to break a high-tier northern concealment."
I walked over to my mount, pulling the reins tight as I looked at my cousins.
"We ride for Ebonmoor," I commanded, the finality in my tone settling over the courtyard like a death sentence. "The city of witches. If we want our Luna back, we make a pact with the shadows."
