Chapter One: Seize the day.
Chapter One: Seize the day.
Blood.
The crimson colour had painted the stainless steel blade that was hanging off one of the desks at the top of the classroom.
The knife wasn't the first indication that I'd stepped into the wrong classroom. The group at the top of the classroom, holding hands in a circle clearly told me that this wasn't English literature class.
I knew what they were doing, but the question as to why remained unanswered as I let my eyes wonder over them all.
They all had the same school badge on their blazers as I did. They were all students here, yet they were making this unbreakable bond.
A bond in which is never spoken about anymore because it was deemed a hoax.
Yet, here they were. Eyes closed, hands joined and blood undoubtedly touching.
A blood bond was being formed.
I lifted the camera that was hung around my neck slowly. I didn't want them to know that I was here. I just needed a proof that this was happening. A single picture in which spoke more words than I ever could to do this moment justice.
Newton Academy students forming a blood bond in an abandon classroom.
I could already picture the headlines. I could hear the men on the streets shouting it as breaking news as they tried to get people on the sidewalk to buy their newspapers.
I looked through the camera to see a pair of hazel eyes locked on me. A gasp involuntarily left my lips.
I've been compromised.
I needed to leave.
The camera click echoed throughout the room. None of the others looked up from the floor as it did. They didn't even stir as the boy unlocked his hands, mumbling two words in a dead language. His voice was low, full of determination and it sent an involuntary shiver down my spine.
I stumbled back against the door, not able to break eye contact with him. It was as if he was out of my sight for a moment he'd disappear and even though I didn't want him near me, I wanted to know his whereabouts.
He knew that I knew.
He knew that I had proof of what was going down in that room.
He knew that them two things made me dangerous.
I knew too well that people with information that doesn't belong to them end up dead.
Anxiousness grew in the pit of my stomach as I my hand fumbled around the door to find the door handle. The brass round handle was cold to touch, but I didn't care for it as I saw him take another step towards me. He took another as I pulled on the handle.
I didn't get watch as he took another as I ran out of the classroom door. All I knew was the fact he did. I knew he knew I would run.
My camera hit my stomach harshly as I ran down the empty corridor. It was taking my breath away faster then I could gain it. I didn't have time to stop running, because I didn't want to think about what would happen if he was to catch up to me.
I knew it was him that was following me. This wing of the school was empty. The only people that were here was that of group in the classroom and me.
The footsteps that followed me were more calculated then mine. They were almost mocking. It was as if he knew I was lost.
It was as if he already knew he would catch me before I even started to run.
I knew better than to scream for help. I knew that nobody would come running. People here didn't care for me. I wasn't one of them. I was an anomaly. My voice would only bounce off the stone walls and back down to that classroom where it would only attract more predators.
There was a door in the near distance. I didn't know where it led to, nor did I care. All I needed was an escape and that was the only door that looked like it went somewhere other than a classroom.
I needed to get outside and that door seemed to lead out to the courtyard. I never wanted to be in this school and after this picture gets to the press then I'll never have to come back. My aunt and uncle will see that this was the wrong choice. That my parents final wish was wrong.
My fingers touched the golden door handle only to be ripped away from it as a hand wrapped around my wrist. I looked down at the large hand that had captured my wrist. The blood that had stained it let me know the owner of it before I turned to see him.
I turned around only to be pushed harshly against the door. A wince left my lips as the door handle dug into the small of my back.
His free hand slammed into the door next to my head letting me know that I was trapped between this door and him. I looked up to see the boy already staring down at me. His gaze was intense, but I didn't dare break contact with him.
I wasn't going to show this monster any sign of submission.
I moved my free hand to push at his chest only for him to press the nail of his thumb into the skin on my forearm.
A strangled breath left my lips, my eyes not leaving his as I tried not to focus on the pain in my wrist and back. I noticed then that this boy was quite handsome.
He had sharp features and his slightly curly hair fell perfectly just above his eyes. His eyes which were ablaze and the fire in them never flickered.
"Why-" The wince that left my lips as he dug his nail further into my skin on my forearm cut my sentence short.
"Name," he said, his voice low and firm. It wasn't a question. It was an order.
"Elliott," I hissed out through clenched teeth. I didn't want this asshole to know my name. I didn't want him to know anything about me, but ultimately I knew I was going to have to give in to his demands right now.
I was captured prey and I wasn't naive enough to believe that I could leave his captivity without a sacrifice or two.
"Name," he repeated, digging his nail in further.
"Elliott Reynolds," I said, not caring how pained my voice was as I told him.
I moved my free hand up to try pull his away, but his free hand grabbed mine, holding it against the door. It was almost too easy for him to overpower me He showed no emotion to my pain. It was as if he didn't care for it.
I watched in horror as he moved his hand to mine, lowering them so I could see the crimson crescent moon which he made on my forearm. I couldn't do anything but stare at the blood that ran down my forearm.
He broke my skin.
He made me bleed.
"W-"
I couldn't find my tongue as I watched his bloodied palm cover my wrist. As our blood met.
As he brought me into a bond that I didn't want to be a part of.
It only lasted a moment, but that's all that he needed to seal the bond. One drop of blood and it was sealed. Willingly or unwillingly.
I heard him take a step away from me. I felt the heat of his body leave me. I couldn't bring myself to look away from the blood on my wrist.
The mess that I was now left to clean up.
He took another step before saying the same two words he said in that classroom. Although, this time he said them louder, but with the same determination behind them.
Carpe diem.
