Shadow Queen
It all started when shadow creatures moved along the candle light watching waiting. Waiting for what I couldn’t tell you because i wouldn’t know. Every night a distant raspy voice would say “goodnight Sofie don’t let the bed bugs bite. See you tomorrow my precious pet”. When I was thirteen I was physically dragged out of bed across the floor to the window where a man would stand under a street lamp.
I tried and tried to get away not letting the darkness appear in my room. The moment I close my eyes the candles go out, a quiet laughter echoes around the room, then comes the scratching on the window like sharp nails against a chalkboard. Conceded only a child my parents think I’m delusional. They want to put me on a mental ward for crazy people. But I know I’m not crazy. Over time they began to put me on medication; consistently hitting me for talking about my delusion in front of the guests.
Tonight is the worst of them all. Tonight the king of the shadows pops up for a visit.
The house started off as peaceful and quiet not a single person stirred. However I sit in my in the middle room hands over my ears blocked out any sort of noise.
All of a sudden I am hauled up by my armpits and yanked into a firm chest. I gasped losing the will to speak.
“It’s ok Sofie. No one is going to hurt you now. You are safe in my arms my queen.” The man’d voice whispered against my neck nibbling at my flesh.
From that moment forward I spend the rest of eternity as the shadow queen with my king buy my side ruling over the shadows in the human world.
