Beneath the wooden table, resting on her knees, lay a heavily annotated copy of Irodov’s Problems in General Physics. Its spine was reinforced with layers of packing tape. Whenever the machine paused, her eyes dropped to the pages, memorizing kinematic equations and calculating vector derivatives in the quiet spaces of her mind.
