The School
Grace opened her eyes, wondering where she was. She was surrounded by 3 other kids, 1 girl and 2 boys. She recognised one, Tommy, he was in her form. The other 2, were ( Like her dad would say) soon to be discovered. The other boy ( The Brunette ) was stirring. Quickly, she took in her surroundings - She was in a school, as big as a mansion, in a place that looks suspiciously like the main hall. Next to them were lockers, big blue ones that looked as if they could hold a horse. They were lying on pillows, pink ones for the girls, blue ones for the boys. It looked like a game - like a escape room. She wouldnt be shocked if they were trapped there.
“Where are we? What the hell?” She was snapped out of her thoughts by the brunette kid. He was sitting up straight now his face in the light and for the first time Grace could finally get a good look at him. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a concerned look on his face. He looked gentle and moderately hot. She could feel her cheeks blushing as she replied
“It looks like some sort of school. Maybe we’re in some sick escape room or something? I’m Grace.”
“I’m Josh.” He replied. “Josh Dawson.” She recognised the name now. He was in her maths class. How had she not noticed him before? As her mum would say, so many questions but so little answers.
“What? Where am I?” The blonde one had woken up now.
“Hey” Grace and Josh replied. Tommy was awake too, she noticed, he was observing the situation quietly. She had always thought of him as a speaker not a listener - she obviously had thought wrong. He looked ill, probably stressing about the fact they’d all woken up in an abandoned school.
“I’ve read about this place” Tommy spoke. Josh and the girl jumped about a foot in the air. Seems she’s the only one who noticed him.
“It was in the school assembly. Nobody really listens to them. It said there was an abandoned school on Pinecroft road. Apparently 4 kids go missing every year. Nobody took it seriously because Mr Chaplin said it and well he says a lot of crap so…” He was practically quaking with fear now.
“We’ll be fine. Don’t worry.” Grace reassured. Look, we’ll find a door, leave and let everyone know where we were. What’s the date today?”
“12th July.” The blonde girl replied.
“Nooooo! Evie! I have a football match today!” Josh protested.
“We’re stuck in an abandoned school and your worrying about a fucking football match?” Evie yelled.
“How do you know him?” Tommy enquired.
“We went to the same primary school. Haven’t spoken in years.”
“Years!” Evie scoffed. “You texted me last week!”
Grace and Tommy exchanged looks. If there was drama, they didn’t want to hear it now.
“You know what? Why don’t we go and explore this place. Go to the front door - see if its just open and we aren’t worrying for no reason.” Grace cut in. Josh and Evie looked so mad she was scared to see what happened next. It was best to break it up before it got any worse.
“Yea, lets go!” Tommy added.
The last thing she saw as they walked out was a pair of green eyes staring at her from the curtain.
